Job Summary: Centrotherm Eco Systems is seeking a Design Engineer II to support mid-level product design and validation for polypropylene venting systems and OEM components. This role translates customer, code, and performance requirements into manufacturable designs and supports products from concept through first article and launch. The Design Engineer II works closely with Engineering, Operations, Quality, and customers (OEMs, distributors, contractors) to deliver solutions that meet quality, cost, and timeline expectations. Job duties: • Design new products, assemblies, and customer-specific components using Creo, including 3D models, detailed drawings, and related engineering documentation., • Translate customer needs and applicable standards into technical requirements; communicate requirements clearly to internal stakeholders and external customers., • Develop and maintain BOMs, specifications, and supporting documentation (e.g., work instructions, installation instructions, technical documentation as required)., • Ensure designs comply with relevant codes and standards, including UL-1738, ULC-S636, ANSI Z21, and NFPA 54, and maintain working knowledge of applicable requirements., • Apply DFM/DFA and target-cost methodology to ensure designs are manufacturable, cost-effective, and scalable; incorporate lean thinking and continuous improvement where applicable., • Support product application needs such as vent sizing, layouts, configuration guidance, and feasibility/cost analysis for custom requests., • Design parts for plastic injection molding, incorporating molding best practices (draft, wall thickness, parting lines, tolerances) and coordinating with suppliers on tooling feedback and design revisions., • Design or support development of tooling, jigs, fixtures, and gauges; coordinate fabrication with internal resources or suppliers, including 3D printing when appropriate., • Support prototype and first-article builds by partnering with Manufacturing; troubleshoot issues, document learnings, and implement design or process improvements., • Create and execute design verification plans, test procedures, and lab documentation; build test setups/fixtures, analyze results, and produce clear reports., • Lead or participate in DFMEA/PFMEA activities; support corrective actions and quality improvements based on test results, field feedback, and production performance., • Support manufacturing readiness by providing necessary outputs (e.g., DXF files, CNC-related documentation, inspection points, critical dimensions, and process guidance)., • Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Operations, Quality, and Product/Engineering to support launches, customer support needs, and ongoing product updates., • Mentor or support junior engineers as assigned., • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited university., • 3–6 years of product design and/or manufacturing engineering experience; plastics, fabrication, or industrial products preferred., • Strong proficiency with 3D CAD; Creo required (experience with drawings, assemblies, and BOM structure)., • Demonstrated ability to create engineering documentation such as work instructions, installation instructions, and technical specifications., • Experience with test methods, verification planning, and lab equipment; ability to interpret results and implement improvements., • In-depth exposure to UL-1738, ULC-S636, ANSI Z21, and NFPA 54 standards (or ability to learn quickly and apply them)., • Required: plastic injection molding design experience, including part design for manufacturability and supplier/tooling collaboration., • Familiarity with tooling/fixture design and first-article/manufacturing support.
