Job Description Job Title: Utility Inspector Job Description The Utility Inspector performs field-based inspections of utility poles to identify corrosion or damage, document findings, and support regulatory compliance activities. This role requires extensive walking in all weather conditions, strong attention to detail, and clear communication with internal teams and external stakeholders. The position is ideal for someone with a utility experience who is comfortable working independently in the field and managing a daily route of multiple inspection sites. Responsibilities • Perform periodic inspections and surveys on utility poles at ground level to identify corrosion, damage, or other issues., • Accurately document all inspection findings in accordance with regulatory and company requirements., • Complete all necessary inspection documentation, forms, and reports in a timely and organized manner., • Support the successful completion of regulatory audits and inspections by providing accurate records and field data., • Perform audit reviews with operations teams and provide support during audits as needed., • Interface professionally with technical services, government agencies, emergency planning committees, emergency responders, landowners, contractors, and other stakeholders., • Use a hand-held tablet to receive and follow the daily route and list of addresses/sites to inspect., • Report to the job site each day using a personal vehicle and remain self-sufficient throughout the workday., • Communicate clearly and regularly with supervisors regarding attendance, sick time, and field activities., • Participate fully in required training, including classroom sessions, practice exams, and scenario-based learning, and complete all homework and practice exams outside of class time., • Valid state driver’s license., • Ownership of a reliable vehicle or sedan suitable for traveling to and from multiple sites., • Minimum 6 months of experience in the utility field or utility-related work., • At least 1 year of professional work experience with a consistent job history., • At least 1 year of driving experience., • Ability to walk for a full 8-hour workday in all weather conditions., • Professional demeanor with strong customer service orientation., • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to speak clearly and explain the work being performed., • Basic to intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook., • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage documentation and daily routes effectively., • Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a team., • Demonstrated initiative and reliability in completing assigned tasks and training requirements., • Experience in the utility industry, utility construction, or related field inspection work., • Experience as an inspection technician or similar field-based technical role., • Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with a variety of stakeholders, including technical services, government agencies, emergency responders, landowners, and contractors., • Ability to follow structured training programs, including classroom schedules, practice exams, and scenario-based learning., • Capacity to learn and apply company-specific inspection tools, procedures, and documentation standards. Work Environment This is a 100% field-based position operating within a defined utility service territory. Standard operating hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with occasional Saturday shifts available at the supervisor’s request and at the contractor’s discretion. You travel daily using your own vehicle to report directly to job sites and receive your route and list of addresses via a hand-held tablet. The role requires extensive walking outdoors in all weather conditions and working around utility infrastructure. The company provides the necessary field equipment, including a simple tool set, field binder for paperwork, identification badges, tools and tool belt, safety vest, hard hat, and a tablet. New hires complete OSHA and orientation training, follow a structured classroom schedule, and must complete practice exams and homework outside of class time. Competency is evaluated through practical inspections using provided tools, with successful performance leading to work independence and additional training offered if needed. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Buffalo, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
