Job Description Hope For Youth proudly offers a full-day, accredited education program in two structured classrooms at our Amityville location. We also provide continued academic support to residents attending their local public schools. Our dedicated Education team-made up of both full-time and part-time staff-works closely with students throughout the academic year to help them succeed. Beyond the classroom, our education staff plays an active role in supporting residents as they work toward personal goals, including internships, vocational opportunities, and meaningful community involvement. We're excited to share that Hope For Youth currently has an opening for a Health & Wellness Teacher/Teacher's Aide within our Education Program. This position reports to the Education Coordinator and offers the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of the youth we serve. To be a successful Health & Wellness Teacher/Teacher's Aide you must be ready, willing and able to do the following always: • Function with agency's policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Manual, • Function within the agency's policy and procedures as outlined in the program guide and applicable codes of conduct, • With guidance from the Education Coordinator plan and implement appropriate instruction/learning strategies and activities, including determining appropriate kind and level of materials., • Utilize a variety of instructional materials and available multimedia and computer technology to enhance learning., • Teach knowledge of, and develop skills and abilities in, physical fitness, coordination and agility, exercise, sports and health., • Supervise/monitor student's behavior in the classroom, • Organize and maintain a system of accurate and complete record-keeping, lesson planning, grading and reporting., • Work collaboratively with the other teachers to ensure that all students are successfully progressing through the program and provide assistance as directed by teachers., • Participate in Education, DES and NSD staff meetings, • Perform other duties to be assigned. Including but not limited to HFY's after school STEAM program and any other regulatory obligations Minimum Qualifications: • High School Diploma or GED, Bachelor's Degree preferred, • NYS Teaching certification preferred, not required (efforts towards pursuit of NYS certification encouraged), • Physical Requirements: read/write reports and log entries, walking/standing/sitting for prolonged periods, bending/stooping, kneeling/squatting, climbing stairs, reaching overhead, repetitive wrist/finger movements, ongoing access to reliable vehicle and driving own vehicle for work This opportunity is being offered as Full-Time, 33-hour work week, 8:30AM – 3:30PM Only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
