The Columbia Nano Initiative (CNI) seeks an outstanding candidate to fill one opening for the position of Senior Director of the CNI Labs at the rank of Research Scientist. Reporting to the Scientific Director of the Columbia Nano Initiative (CNI), the Research Scientist will actively participate in multidisciplinary CNI research programs in close collaboration with CNI-affiliated faculty and researchers. The Director of CNI Shared Laboratory Facilities, which include the cleanroom, electron microscopy facilities, the shared materials characterization facilities, and any newly developed facilities as needed will assist principal investigators (PIs) in their research and utilization of shared facilities and equipment, serving as a key strategic partner and subject-matter expert in equipment operation, configuration, capabilities, and maintenance to ensure high-quality research outcomes. The Research Scientist will provide guidance and expertise in various aspects of laboratories operation. Key Responsibilities • Lead energy audits, building assessments, and feasibility studies for commercial, institutional, and multifamily facilities., • Develop energy models using industry‐standard tools to evaluate building systems and identify cost‐effective efficiency measures., • Prepare detailed technical reports, including savings calculations, financial analyses, and recommended improvements., • Oversee project execution from initial assessment through implementation support, ensuring accuracy, quality, and timely delivery., • Collaborate with clients, architects, engineers, and contractors to develop practical, sustainable solutions., • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance across project teams., • Stay current with local energy codes, incentive programs, and emerging technologies in the New York market., • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred., • Minimum of 5 years of experience in energy engineering, building systems, or related fields., • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, building controls, and energy conservation measures., • Proficiency with energy modeling software (e.g., eQUEST, EnergyPlus, TRACE, or similar)., • Familiarity with ASHRAE standards, NYC energy codes, and local incentive programs (e.g., NYSERDA, Con Edison)., • Professional certifications such as EIT, PE, CEM, or LEED AP are highly valued., • Excellent analytical, communication, and report‐writing skills., • Competitive salary and performance‐based bonuses., • Comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and vision insurance., • Professional development support, including certification reimbursement., • Opportunities for career advancement within a growing team., • A collaborative, mission‐driven work environment focused on sustainability and innovation.
