Job Description Position: Events Operations Manager Department: Member Events / Programming Reports To: Director of Programming FLSA: Exempt Compensation: $85,000 - $95,000 per year This is an on-site position located in San Francisco. COMPANY PROFILE: The Battery is San Francisco's unique modern-era private social club. The Battery houses seven bars and casual, yet stellar dining rooms serving breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner. It has private event spaces and catering, and a boutique 14 room hotel including penthouse suites. Gardens, and breathtaking views of San Francisco add to the unique ambiance. The Battery offers a dynamic membership program including frequent lecturers, eclectic performing arts, curated experiences, publications, and excursions. The Club also houses The Battery Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization, supported by our Members, that has made more than $30 million in grants since its inception. POSITION PROFILE: The Member Events Operations Manager supports the execution of The Battery’s Member Events programming by ensuring events run smoothly from a service, staffing, and operational standpoint. This role is primarily focused on Member Events, with occasional support of Private Events during slower periods. This is a hands-on, floor-based position suited for someone with hospitality and event experience who thrives in live environments, understands service flow, and can manage staff and logistics in real time. The role works closely with Programming and Food & Beverage leadership to deliver consistent, well-run events that meet the club’s standards. Battery Programs The Member Events produces a wide range of events, including but not limited to: high end culinary events, wine and spirit tastings, comedy nights, live music concerts, lectures and panels, trivia and game nights, networking events, DJ nights, and family programs. DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: Event & Service Execution • Serve as the on-site operational point person for member events, overseeing setup, service flow, and breakdown., • Execute food and beverage service plans in coordination with F&B and Culinary teams., • Ensure BEOs and event timelines are followed accurately during live events., • Act as a host presence during events, supporting members and resolving service issues as they arise., • Closeout Point of Sale (POS) system and provide receipts and event recap to ME Team Staffing & Floor Leadership, • Supervise hourly event staff and outsourced labor during events., • Lead pre-event briefings to align staff on service expectations and timing., • Support training and reinforcement of service standards during events., • Escalate staffing or performance issues to department leadership when needed.Event Management Support, • Partner with the Programming team to translate event plans into operational execution., • Coordinate with AV, Engineering, Front Desk, and Security on event-day needs., • Assist with furniture layouts, run-of-show coordination, and basic production logistics., • Fulfill and manage artist, speaker, and vendor hospitality., • Serve as the main point of contact for artists, vendors, and speakers for some programs., • Help Establish and maintain strong relationships with Artists, Speakers, and Vendors that come to Battery. Administrative & Operational Support, • Assist with invoice collection and coding, vendor paperwork, and post-event documentation., • Create weekly event signage using templates, • Create monthly repeat programming BEOs and floor plans using existing templates, • Support expense tracking and reconciliation for events., • Maintain operational notes, staffing feedback, and event follow-ups., • Additional administrative projects as time allows.Cross-Department Support, • Provide occasional support for private events during slower programming periods. ESSENTIAL SKILLS: • Demonstrated experience managing service staff during live events., • Can creatively solve problems and effectively implement solutions., • Must be able to deal with vendors, presenters, and talent in a professional manner while maintaining a composed demeanor in high-stress situations., • Strong communication skills and calm presence in fast-paced environments., • Good time management skills; can manage and complete priorities and workflow, and be detail-oriented., • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in hospitality, events, private clubs, or similar environments, especially with a food and beverage focus., • High school diploma or equivalent. College degree preferred., • Familiarity with BEOs, event timelines, and managing onsite vendors., • Excellent computer skills and ability to use software programs (e.g., Google Office Suite, MS Office)., • Works with a sense of urgency., • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in English., • Take direction well; understand and follow written and verbal instructions., • Can creatively solve problems and effectively implement solutions., • Must be able to deal with vendors, presenters, and talent in a professional manner while maintaining a composed demeanor in high-stress situations., • Frequent & high volume of member/guest contact is required., • Must be able to tolerate varying noise levels, temperature, illumination, and air quality., • Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity., • Requires a normal sense of smell, taste, touch, and sound., • Must be able to respond to visual or aural cues., • Continuously or periodically bend, twist, lean, lift, push, pull, kneel, bend, walk, stand, and/or sit up to 8+ hours per shift., • Lift up to 50 pounds in order to perform the essential functions., • Work in a fast-paced environment and sometimes stressful situations.
