Job Description Position Overview The IT Operations & Field Systems Lead is a senior, hands-on technology professional responsible for supporting and optimizing IT systems across plant, field, and office operations. This role is heavily focused on plant IT infrastructure and operational technology (OT), ensuring reliable connectivity, system uptime, and rapid response for production-critical environments. This position partners closely with Plant Managers, Operations, Safety, and Corporate IT to design, deploy, and support technology that keeps batching plants and field operations running efficiently. This includes plant network design, production system connectivity, mobile/field technology, and on-site troubleshooting of mission-critical systems. This role complements existing IT leadership and is focused specifically on field, plant, and operational technology support, not traditional office-only IT. Key Responsibilities 1. Systems & Infrastructure Management * Manage networks, servers, workstations, and mobile devices across multiple plant and office locations. * Oversee system updates, upgrades, migrations, and planned outages. * Troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues across both office and industrial environments. * Maintain inventory and lifecycle management of IT hardware, software, and plant technology assets. * Coordinate with vendors for plant hardware, network equipment, radios, and specialized production systems. 3. Business Applications & ERP Support * Support ERP, dispatch, production, and business applications used in plant and field operations. * Support database systems (SQL preferred) and coordinate with vendors on advanced technical issues. * Ensure reliable connectivity between plant systems, field devices, and corporate applications. * Assist with system integrations and data flow between plant systems and enterprise platforms. 4. Security, Compliance & Governance * Enforce corporate IT security standards while adapting controls for plant and operational environments. * Partner with Corporate IT and Security to protect plant networks and operational systems. * Maintain documentation for system changes, access controls, and audit requirements. * Support SOX and other IT audit activities as required. * Ensure compliance with corporate IT policies and security frameworks. 5. User & Operations Support * Provide hands-on, on-site IT support for plant staff, supervisors, dispatch, and office employees. * Support VOIP phones, wireless devices, tablets, and mobile field equipment. * Lead IT onboarding for new hires at plant and office locations. * Provide training and guidance on plant and operational technology. 6. Project Leadership * Lead IT projects related to plant startups, relocations, system upgrades, and technology rollouts. * Coordinate and oversee external vendors and contractors. * Provide technical leadership for plant and field technology initiatives. * Partner with Corporate IT to align local plant needs with enterprise systems and standards. Skills & Abilities * Strong experience supporting IT in industrial, plant, or multi-site operational environments. * Advanced troubleshooting skills for production-critical and plant-floor systems. * Strong networking knowledge (switches, wireless, access points, cabling, site-to-site connectivity). * Experience with Windows systems and Active Directory. * SQL/database knowledge preferred. * Experience supporting ERP, dispatch, and operational business systems. * Strong project management and organizational skills. * Ability to work independently in remote and fast-paced plant environments. * Excellent communication with plant leadership, operations teams, and corporate IT. Qualifications * Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field preferred. * Minimum 4+ years of IT experience, preferably in industrial, manufacturing, construction, or multi-site operations. * Demonstrated experience supporting plant, production, or OT environments strongly preferred. * Prior senior or lead-level technical experience preferred. * IT certifications preferred (Network+, CCNA, A+, Microsoft, ITIL, etc.). Working Conditions & Physical Requirements * Environment: Office, plant, and active job-site environments. * Schedule: Full-time, exempt; must support operational hours including early mornings, evenings, and occasional Saturdays. * Travel: Frequent travel to company plants and job sites. * Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 30 pounds of IT equipment; bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in industrial plant environments as required.
