You would join about 800 teammates across DC, MD, PA, and WV that empower youth and their families to flourish within their community. What does this job do specifically? Position Summary: Reporting directly to the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), this position is a member of the Everstand Senior Leadership Team. The Senior Director is responsible for executing the strategic plan for the Marketing and Development departments with a mission advancement focus. The position will mentor and supervise a Marketing Manager, Marketing and Development Coordinator, Annual Giving Manager, Grants and Stewardship Publications Manager, and Volunteer and Community Engagement Manager. The Senior Director and their team are supported by several external vendors and consultants. On the Development side of Everstand, the Senior Director manages a relationship-focused fundraising team. Each key fundraiser (up to and including the CEO and Board Members) has an assigned portfolio of relationships. The Senior Director models and coaches everyone on next steps with their assigned individuals, foundations, or corporate partners, and ensures there is a thoughtful process for activating, cultivating, tracking, and refreshing these lists. The fundraising team works together to execute grant writing, an annual golf tournament, and annual, major, and planned giving activities throughout the year. On the Marketing side, the Senior Director provides strategic leadership and oversight of Everstands internal Marketing team, ensuring the alignment of all marketing, communications, and brand initiatives with the organizations mission and strategic priorities. The Senior Director directs the planning and execution of comprehensive marketing strategies that strengthen Everstands visibility, drive community engagement, and amplify the impact of our programs and fundraising efforts, while ensuring cohesive messaging and a unified brand experience across all stakeholder audiences. The Senior Director of Advancement will combine the efforts of development and marketing as drivers of Everstands long-term sustainability, or Mission advancement. Mission advancement includes: Brand stewardship and reputation management Storytelling and strategic communication Philanthropy and donor engagement Volunteer culture and community partnerships Organizational visibility and public trust Internal alignment around purpose, message and impact. Collaborate on the development of Marketing and Development departmental strategic plans with the President & CEO. Work across all teams to ensure the plans become operational. Prepare and submit an annual operational budget for each area of responsibility and manage effectively within this budget Monitor the Development teams' progress to meet desired revenue targets and other identified key performance indicators. Report accurately on progress made and challenges encountered. Oversee all annual, major, and planned giving efforts and ensure all materials follow best practices, Everstand's internal guidelines, and adhere to the Association of Fundraising Professionals code of ethics. Work closely with the President and CEO to facilitate the involvement of the Board of Directors in Everstand's fundraising plans. Provide the necessary leadership and management to develop and protect a strong and consistently applied brand for Everstand. Ensure time or theme-specific marketing campaigns are delegated to the appropriate in-house or external resources. Create buy-in from all stakeholders on the projects timeline. Ensure clear, consistent communication occurs by all parties. Consult with the program team on strategies to manage important federal, state, and local relationships that drive referrals of clients and families to Everstand's programs. Attend and present at Marketing and Development Committee (MAD) meetings of the Everstand Board of Directors. Non-Essential Functions: Create, activate, and manage effective messages during planned and unplanned media events. Act as organizational spokesperson to members of the media as needed (typically only in the absence of an Executive Team member). Support Everstand's Program and Admissions teams by ensuring target populations served, facility photos, and other essential information are accessible in both web and print formats. Partner with the Quality Improvement (QI) and Program teams to cultivate stories to share with donors and the wider Everstand community. Participate in Everstand's accreditation processes and ensure accreditations are maintained between renewals. Ensure departmental policy and procedure manuals are kept up to date and submitted for approval before the stated deadlines. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, desk phones, smartphone and tablet devices, scanners, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. In the nature of being in a residential living and school environment, there may be times you experience conditions in which challenging behavior can be exhibited from our youth including but not limited to, physical agitation, physical violence, and/or emotional outbursts. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position. Days of work are typically Monday through Friday. This position regularly requires flexible work hours. Eligible for flex schedule. Non-essential for inclement weather. The role may require off-hours, holidays and weekend work depending on events scheduled. Travel Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected. Required Education and Experience Master's Degree in a related communication, business, management, or related field A minimum of eight (8) years of experience in professional fundraising OR A minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in professional fundraising In either educational degree scenario above, the candidate must demonstrate: At least 3 years of their experience was supervising a development team. A track record of cultivating and closing a major gift or grant. Preferred Credential CFRE credential from the CFRE International Additional Eligibility Qualifications Organized, flexible, detail-oriented and work at an above-average pace. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills, embrace a high standard of personal ethics, and analytical and problem-solving abilities. Exemplary leadership attributes as described in the leadership culture of the agency Ability to evolve the overseen departments to the next level of performance Exceptional public speaking skills. Advanced fundraising skills especially in online and direct mail appeals. Project creation and management skills. Experience in event planning. Excellent verbal and writing skills. Proven ability and success in face-to-face solicitation. Demonstrated ability to be thorough and conscientious in responding to community members, working with staff and board members, and maintaining files. Strong commitment to the AFP Code of Ethics. Proven ability to work with high-level volunteers, as well as board members. Experience in supporting volunteer committees. Ability and eagerness to interact positively with volunteers and board members. Ambition, tact and finesse required. Success in asking for and closing major gifts and in building and maintaining long term relationships with major individual donors and foundations is required. Knowledge of Maryland, West Virginia, DC, and or PA fundraising communities strongly desired. Ability to supervise, coach, and mentor staff with clear expectations for performance that leads to successful acquisition of Key Performance Indicators (KPIS) Ability to keep an electronic calendar (Outlook) and task list (Asana.com) a must. Ability to pass the written test for Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI). No physical TCI test is required for this position. Ability to obtain and maintain certification in CPR/First Aid. Ability to demonstrate the possession of a valid driver's license prior to employment and ability to maintain the license and operate a motor vehicle thereafter. Ability to pass CPS/UII/Childline background check both prior to employment and per the schedule outlined by HR thereafter. Ability to pass a Tuberculosis Screening both prior to employment and per the schedule outlined by HR thereafter. Ability to pass a work-readiness physical performed by a certified medical professional both prior to employment and per the schedule outlined by HR thereafter. Ability to pass a Federal and State Fingerprinting Background Check both prior to employment and per the schedule outlined by HR thereafter. Ability to pass a drug screen via urinalysis both prior to employment and randomly thereafter.
