Job Description Position Summary: The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Manager of Education and Community Engagement plays a critical role in supporting in all aspects of Education and Community Engagement programs. The Manager oversees all logistical and administrative elements of the Midweek, Family, and Music Box concert series, as well as serves as the point person for logistics of the high school Side-by-Side program with local schools. This role manages Student Open Rehearsals and overall department needs as required, including the Academy and BSO on the Go programs. As a point of contact for various aspects of Education programming, this role interfaces extensively with educators and patrons externally, and all departments internally, communicating clearly to work in a collaborative way with the community and across the organization. Reporting to the Director of Education & Community Engagement, this position is an integral part of the BSO Education & Community Engagement team. The role also works collaboratively with the BSYO Manager, and provides support to that program, as needed. This position requires a high-level ability to multi-task, manage projects of considerable complexity with accuracy and attention to detail, knowledge of instrumental music, and excellent customer relations skills. This position also has logistical and operations responsibilities in the education department related to website, Tessitura, and communications. This Manager should be proficient in developing curriculum and interfacing with the educational community. Duties & Responsibilities: Oversee critical components of Mid-week Family and Music Box Concerts, including: • Communication with schools that would like to attend Mid-week concerts, • Assist the Director of Education and Community Engagement in booking Artists, • Manage the Artists schedule and hospitality, • All bus logistics scheduling, budgeting, and communications, • Prepare Midweek post-concert surveys and compile data, • Manage Family and Music Box pre-concert activity planning with others on the Education team, • Coordinate and work with front of house for all performances, • Responsible for coordinating all logistics relating to the Academy, • Responsible for all participant registration and acts as primary contact for participants and all Academy inquiries, • Create application forms, overseeing website updates, and payment processes, • Work with BSO Program Advisor to make sure music and parts are distributed to participants, • Track budget and process program fees, • Act as primary contact to vendors, • Coordinate fundraising efforts and sponsor information with Development, particularly for the Annual Report, • Assist Director of Education and Community Engagement with budgets and related financial processes, • Assist with website updates, social media communications, Tessitura integration with website, including education e-blasts, and other communications, • Engage and supervise interns and volunteers to assist on many projects, • Create reports as needed relating to the above programs, • Assist Education Program Manager with tasks such as, but not limited to, pre-concert activities for Family and Music Box concerts, • Work collaboratively with Manager of the Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestras, and provide support as needed, • Other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in music, arts administration, event planning, or a related field OR equivalent combination of education and relevant experience (at least 1–2 years)., • Strong computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook., • Strong writing and communication skills., • Excellent customer relations and interpersonal skills., • Demonstrated organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines., • Ability to learn new software programs as needed., • Demonstrated initiative, problem-solving skills, and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Preferred Qualifications: • Experience coordinating or running educational or arts programs., • Experience with Tessitura software., • Demonstrated success managing program or departmental budgets., • Familiarity with social media communications or marketing., • Background or experience specifically in performing arts organizations or nonprofits.
