American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN Hospice Palliative Care RN for a travel nursing job in Charlotte, North Carolina. Job Description & Requirements • Specialty: Hospice Palliative Care RN, • Discipline: RN, • Start Date: 04/27/2026, • Duration: 13 weeks, • 40 hours per week, • Shift: 8 hours, days, • Employment Type: Travel Assignment Overview • Shift: Days, 5x8hrs, • Hours: 40 hrs/wk, • Start Date: Apr 27, 2026, • Length: 13 weeks, • Outpatient hospice setting serving patients with a prognosis of 6 months or less to live, primarily geriatric population, • Average daily census of 63 patients with approximately 5 visits per day, • Day shift, 8-hour shifts (0800–1700), 5 days per week, • On-call rotation required on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings from 8:00 PM to 8:00 AM, rotating with other RNs in the department; volunteers may cover weeknight call (Monday–Thursday) when the designated RN is unavailable, • A nurse triage service screens incoming calls per protocol and contacts the on-call RN only when a visit is needed, • No float requirement, • Charting system: Epic Remote Client (experience required); SBAR communication framework used, • No scrubs provided; RNs are required to wear all navy blueRequirements, • Active NC or Compact RN license required (must be in hand at time of start), • Current BLS certification required, • Minimum of 2 years of RN experience required, • Experience in home health/hospice and skilled nursing settings required, • Required end-of-life care skills: survivorship/after-treatment care and cultural awareness, • Required pain management skills: WHO Analgesic Ladder, adjuvant therapy, breakthrough dosing, pediatric dosage calculation, medication tolerance, pain assessment, pharmacologic and non-pharmacological pain interventions, proper medication disposal, types of pain (somatic, visceral, neuropathic) and treatment, and use of verbal and nonverbal pain scales, • Required professional knowledge: goal setting with patient/family, intake assessment/interview, Medicare state regulations, patient/family education and support, and positioning/pressure ulcer prevention, • Required symptom management skills: altered mental status, anorexia and cachexia, aphasia, constipation/diarrhea, nausea/vomiting, and pressure ulcer staging, • Epic EMR experience required, • Two manager or supervisor references from within the past 12 months required at time of startAdditional Information, • First-time travelers are welcome to apply, • Local candidates are accepted at the travel rate; candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility will be offered a lower local rate, • Orientation consists of approximately 40 hours of unit-specific orientation in addition to the standard hospital orientation, • Non-billable online modules (4–5 hours for non-acute roles) must be completed prior to start and renewed annually, • Candidates must work 2 out of 3 major holidays; RTO is not permitted during the first week of the assignment, • RTO requests of 7 days or fewer may be auto-approved provided they do not fall on a holiday; requests exceeding 7 days require facility approval; RTO after booking is not permitted and cannot be arranged on-site, • Preferred skills include: death pronouncement, death/dying counseling, identifying spiritual needs, perideath family care, postmortem care, advanced directives, palliative sedation, withholding/withdrawing treatment, equianalgesic opioid dosing, PCA pump management, phlebotomy, IV insertion and management, central line/port care, and DME authorization, • Previous permanent, PRN, or EP employees of the associated health system must wait 12 months before applying as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required before any offer can be extended, • Current travel per diem clinicians at the associated health system are not eligible for travel assignments; clinicians must choose one or the other, • Candidates with a prior work history at this health system must disclose the facility name and dates of employment at the time of consideration, • A Zoom interview is required; all candidates will be interviewed before any offer is made With thousands of travel nursing and allied jobs nationwide, our attentive and approachable recruiters find positions that align perfectly with your career aspirations and personal requirements.
