Job DescriptionJob Title: Material Handler Lead Job Description The Material Handler Lead oversees daily warehouse material handling operations, ensuring accurate inventory movement, safe equipment operation, and efficient shipping and receiving processes. This role combines hands-on material handling with team leadership, including task assignment, training, and enforcing standard operating procedures to maintain high levels of safety, quality, and productivity. Responsibilities • Lead daily material handling activities, including receiving, put-away, picking, transfers, and shipping to ensure accurate and timely movement of materials., • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, reach trucks, and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently in accordance with established procedures., • Assign daily tasks to team members based on schedule, workload, and headcount to meet operational priorities., • Train new and existing employees on material handling processes, safety procedures, and standard operating procedures (SOPs)., • Ensure team members follow all safety procedures, rules, dock safety standards, and personal protective equipment (PPE) policies at all times., • Maintain high accuracy in material movement, receipts, put-away, picks, and transfers by applying strong attention to detail and following FIFO and established picking methods., • Perform and support cycle counts and inventory control activities, including identifying and resolving discrepancies., • Use RF scanners and warehouse management or ERP systems to track, document, and update inventory transactions., • Inspect incoming shipments, verify packing slips, purchase orders, and invoices, and coordinate the shipping of large freight pieces., • Identify and escalate shortages, discrepancies, quality issues, and operational problems promptly to supervisors or managers., • Log and communicate daily notes and pass-down information to ensure smooth handoffs between shifts or teams., • Provide feedback to supervisors and managers regarding manpower allocation, performance, and skill gaps within the team., • Motivate team members, support a safety-driven culture, and contribute to continuous improvement in warehouse operations., • Maintain an organized, audit-ready warehouse environment and support 5S and lean practices where applicable.Essential Skills, • 3–5 years of material handling, logistics, and warehouse experience., • 1–2 years of informal or formal leadership experience in a warehouse or material handling environment., • Hands-on experience operating forklifts, pallet jacks, and reach lifts safely and efficiently., • Experience with receiving and shipping processes, including inspection of incoming shipments and coordination of outbound freight., • Inventory control and cycle counting experience, including careful tracking and documentation of inventory movements., • Strong understanding of FIFO, put-away and picking methods, dock safety standards, load securement, and freight handling., • Experience using RF scanners and warehouse management systems (WMS) or ERP systems for inventory transactions., • Strong communication skills that are professional, clear, and direct., • Dependable and safety-driven mindset with the ability to ensure adherence to safety procedures and PPE policies., • Ability to train new employees, enforce SOPs, and motivate team members., • Ability to recognize issues, make sound judgments, and escalate matters appropriately., • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills to ensure accuracy in material movement and documentation., • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required., • At least 1 year of experience in warehouses, receiving, or material handling in a manufacturing environment., • Ability to read and interpret packing slips, purchase orders, and invoices., • Basic computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Outlook., • Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment., • Forklift experience required, with the ability to handle heavier material handling and receiving work., • Ability to lift up to 30–35 pounds and stand or walk for extended periods, including occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing portable ladders., • Good manual dexterity and multi-limb coordination for safe equipment operation and material handling.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Familiarity with ERP and WMS systems is preferred., • Lean and 5S experience is a plus, including maintaining an organized and audit-ready warehouse., • OSHA forklift certifications are preferred., • Experience managing or supporting key performance indicators (KPIs) in a warehouse environment., • Experience maintaining warehouse areas in compliance with 5S standards., • Interest in working within a modern, technology-enabled facility and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a modern, state-of-the-art facility in Mesa, Arizona that leverages Industry 4.0 technology and advanced warehouse systems. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for the Mesa 1 location. The work is hands-on and physically active, requiring regular standing and walking for extended periods, as well as occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing portable ladders. You must be able to lift and move up to 35 pounds and perform tasks that require good manual dexterity and multi-limb coordination. The environment involves frequent use of forklifts, pallet jacks, reach trucks, RF scanners, and ERP/WMS systems, with less focus on computer work and more emphasis on material handling and receiving. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required and must be worn in accordance with safety policies. The facility maintains organized, audit-ready warehouse areas and emphasizes dock safety standards, load securement, and adherence to 5S and lean practices. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Phoenix, AZ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $32.00/hr.
