Job Description Job Title: Fabricator / Welder Job Description This contract-to-hire role offers the opportunity to work as a hands-on Fabricator / Welder, cutting, bending, and shaping metal components and assembling them into high-quality structures. You will operate a variety of fabrication equipment and perform MIG, TIG, and ARC welding while working from blueprints and CAD models. You will support a growing startup environment where standard operating procedures are still evolving, requiring flexibility, creativity, and a strong problem-solving mindset. Responsibilities • Cut, bend, and shape metal components using fabrication equipment such as saws, lathes, drill presses, grinders, and shears., • Perform MIG, TIG, ARC, and flux core welding to join and assemble metal components, including stainless steel, aluminum, and structural steel., • Interpret and work from blueprints, CAD models, and other technical drawings to fabricate accurate parts and assemblies., • Measure, mark, and layout materials using tape measures and other precision tools to ensure correct dimensions and tolerances., • Perform tapping, cutting, grinding, and fitting operations to prepare and finish components for assembly., • Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively for fabrication, fitting, and finishing tasks., • Assemble and fit structural and mechanical components to build complete structures or subassemblies., • Inspect workpieces and welds for quality, accuracy, and structural integrity, making adjustments as needed., • Contribute to the development of standard operating procedures by providing feedback and supporting continuous improvement efforts., • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in both the indoor facility and outdoor laydown yard., • Collaborate with team members to solve fabrication and design challenges in a fast-paced startup environment., • Work overtime as needed to meet production schedules and project deadlines. Essential Skills • Proven ability to cut, bend, and shape metal components using fabrication equipment such as saws, lathes, drill presses, grinders, and shears., • Hands-on experience with MIG, TIG, and ARC welding methods, including MIG welding, TIG welding, flux core welding, and aluminum welding., • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, blueprints reading skills, and work from CAD models to produce accurate parts., • Experience working with stainless steel, aluminum, structural steel, and other metal materials., • Proficiency in tapping, cutting, grinding, and fitting metal components., • Skilled use of hand tools and power tools for fabrication and finishing tasks., • Ability to measure accurately using tape measures and related tools., • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of structural and mechanical assemblies., • Creativity and problem-solving skills to address fabrication challenges and improve processes., • Flexibility to adapt to evolving procedures and changing priorities in a startup environment., • Willingness and ability to work overtime as required to support production needs. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience working from CAD models to translate designs into fabricated parts and assemblies., • Background in structural steel fabrication and assembly., • Familiarity with developing or following standard operating procedures in a production or fabrication setting., • Comfort working both indoors in a ventilated, air-conditioned facility and outdoors in a laydown yard., • Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues in a growing organization. Work Environment This is a fully on-site position based in Austin, Texas, working inside a ventilated, air-conditioned fabrication facility and outside in an open laydown yard. You will work with a range of fabrication technologies and equipment, including saws, lathes, drill presses, grinders, shears, hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment for MIG, TIG, ARC, and flux core processes. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with the expectation of flexibility to work overtime as needed to meet production demands. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $38.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
