Job Description Job Title: Diesel Technician Job Description Join a dedicated maintenance team as a Diesel Technician responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on diesel-powered trucks and heavy equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. You will apply your mechanical expertise and troubleshooting skills to diesel engines, electrical systems, brakes, and drivetrains while working in a professional, team-oriented shop environment. Responsibilities • Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled inspections on diesel trucks and heavy equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety., • Diagnose and repair diesel engines, transmissions, drivetrains, brake systems, steering systems, and suspension components., • Troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems using appropriate tools and diagnostic methods., • Utilize diagnostic software and tools to accurately identify mechanical and system issues., • Complete repair orders, service reports, and maintenance documentation accurately and in a timely manner., • Perform DOT inspections and ensure all vehicles and equipment meet applicable safety and regulatory standards., • Conduct road tests as needed to verify that repairs and maintenance have been completed successfully., • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with shop policies and safety procedures., • Communicate equipment issues, repair status, and recommendations clearly with supervisors and team members., • Support generator repair and maintenance, motor repair, and engine overhauls as needed. Essential Skills • Proven experience as a Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Fleet Mechanic, or in a closely related role., • Demonstrated ability to diagnose and repair diesel engines and related vehicle systems, including engine repair and overhaul., • Hands-on experience with diesel engine repair, generator repair, generator maintenance, and motor repair., • Proficiency using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment in a shop environment., • Ability to read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and technical documentation., • Strong troubleshooting skills with electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems., • Capability to perform DOT inspections and ensure compliance with safety standards, where required by experience., • Valid driver's license., • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks in a shop setting., • Comfort working around grease, machinery, and varying temperatures. Additional Skills & Qualifications • ASE Certification and/or formal Diesel Technology education., • Experience performing DOT inspections in a professional shop environment., • CDL (Commercial Driver's License)., • Experience working with Cummins, Detroit, Caterpillar, PACCAR, or International engines., • Familiarity with diagnostic software and computerized maintenance tools., • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team., • Attention to detail in documentation and adherence to safety and maintenance procedures. Work Environment You will work primarily in an indoor shop environment with occasional outdoor assignments, where you will be exposed to varying temperatures, noise, grease, and operating machinery. The maintenance department operates as a collaborative, team-oriented group with ongoing training opportunities and access to diagnostic software, hand tools, power tools, and other professional-grade equipment. The role offers overtime opportunities based on business needs. Two shifts are available: a first shift from Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and a second shift from Monday to Friday, 2:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. Appropriate shop attire and adherence to safety protocols are expected to ensure a safe and professional working environment Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Omaha, NE. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $40.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
