The Division of Continuing Education (DCE) is a self-supporting unit within the University of California. The Division of Emergency General Surgery at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine is recruiting for an acute care surgeon and surgical intensivist, hired at the Health Sciences Clinical Professor Series at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor Level, dependent upon the candidate's qualifications. This position would be primarily located at the brand-new Irvine campus hospital, a 144-bed hospital opening in December 2025, which will feature a surgical intensive care unit as well as a busy emergency general surgery service. Additionally, the faculty would develop a robust elective general surgery practice in Irvine. The Surgical Intensive Care Unit would include patients from most of the surgical specialties including the emergency general surgery service. The new Irvine hospital will feature an Emergency Department, urgent care, and have most of the specialty services with state-of-the-art operating rooms. While the Irvine hospital is not a trauma center, there may be opportunities for additional trauma call at the Orange Campus, the only ACS-verified Adult Level 1 Trauma Center and Level II Pediatric Trauma Center in Orange County, serving a population of 3.2 million with over 6,100 trauma activations annually.
