Job Description Job Title: Assistant Project Manager – Industrial Construction Job Description This role supports the successful delivery of industrial construction projects from initiation through closeout. The Assistant Project Manager works closely with an experienced Project Manager to plan, schedule, coordinate, and execute projects safely, on time, and within budget. This position provides day-to-day support for field operations, helps manage cost and schedule performance, and contributes to maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and compliance across all phases of construction. Responsibilities • Support the delivery of industrial construction projects from pre-construction through completion, ensuring alignment with project goals, schedules, and budgets., • Partner closely with the Project Manager to assist with project planning, scheduling, coordination, budgeting, and safety execution., • Provide day-to-day support for on-site activities, including tracking construction progress, monitoring work performance, and participating in regular project reviews and coordination meetings., • Assist in identifying project risks, resolving issues, and proactively mitigating schedule delays or cost impacts., • Help plan and coordinate field activities, including steel erection, mechanical and industrial construction tasks, and other trade work as required., • Assist with cost control and schedule management by tracking projections, forecasts, and performance metrics to support informed decision-making., • Contribute to maintaining accurate documentation, including data entry related to schedules, budgets, progress reports, and project logs., • Support the implementation and monitoring of safety programs, ensuring that all safety, quality, and compliance standards are consistently met on site., • Review project projections and performance metrics to identify trends and recommend adjustments to keep projects on track., • Coordinate with field teams, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to ensure clear communication and efficient execution of work., • Participate in ongoing training and development to build project management, construction, and safety expertise., • 1–2+ years of experience in construction management or industrial construction, with exposure to field or on-site coordination., • Experience in the construction, industrial, or mechanical construction space; candidates may range from entry level up to approximately 10 years of experience, with 3–6 years considered ideal., • Hands-on field coordination and on-site experience supporting construction activities., • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel, for documentation, reporting, and data tracking., • Experience with scheduling and schedule planning in a construction or industrial environment., • Strong data entry skills with attention to accuracy and detail., • Familiarity with industrial, mechanical, commercial, or steel erection projects and related construction practices., • Ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics, and construction documents., • Demonstrated safety awareness and knowledge of safety practices in construction or industrial settings., • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or a related field such as construction engineering, safety, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, or industrial process/management is preferred but not required., • Technical or associate-level programs in construction, industrial, or mechanical disciplines are considered a plus., • Proficiency in planning and scheduling tools and methods, with exposure to software such as Primavera, MS Project, P6, or Power BI considered an advantage., • Experience with project management, project coordination, estimation, or scheduling coordination in construction environments., • Exposure to mechanical construction, industrial construction, steel erection, or commercial construction projects., • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced project environment., • Effective communication skills for collaborating with project managers, field teams, and multiple trades on site. This is a 100% on-site role, typically working Monday through Friday from approximately 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The primary office is based in Crown Point, IN, with active project sites in locations such as Elwood, IL, where a peaker plant is being disassembled, loaded, and shipped, and DeKalb, IL, where an automated racking and conveyor project is underway. Each site typically has 35–60 people on site at all times across various trades, with the majority being direct employees, creating a cohesive, team-oriented environment. The culture is tight knit, with many employees having worked together for over 20 years, fostering a family-like atmosphere and strong collaboration on projects. The work involves industrial and mechanical construction activities, including steel erection and automated systems, and requires consistent adherence to safety and quality standards. Travel within Illinois, Wisconsin, and Indiana may be required over time, with per diem, travel pay, and mileage provided for qualifying assignments. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Elwood, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $31.75 - $40.87/hr.
