Job Description Job Description: Title: House Manager & Family Assistant (with Childcare Support) Location: Birmingham, AL 35222 Employment Type: Full-time, but with downtime. Proposed Start Date: ASAP Compensation: $40,000 to $50,000 a year Requirements: • Able to maintain a smoke-free environment, • Reliable transportation, • Good with kids, • Ability to cook and clean Proposed Schedule: • Schedule will be consistent, but change every other week with a schedule that flexes within 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, • Availability on both week and weekend days is required with some flexibility), • Schedule will be structured to ensure coverage during the late afternoon and evening, which are the household's highest-need times, • Specific weekly schedule to be determined in collaboration with the family About Our Family: I am a busy lawyer that works a lot. I have two elementary aged young children and need assistance navigating a full and active household without nearby extended family support. There are many needs for my household, but there is also plenty of downtime. There are day-to-day things that are needed, but they are very simple. I’m looking for someone who can provide steady, reliable support to help keep the household running smoothly by managing key tasks, maintaining organization, and creating more ease in my daily routines. While the primary focus of the role is household support, there will also be opportunities to step in with childcare as needed, with the potential for that aspect to grow over time. Overall, I’m hoping to find someone who enjoys creating order, being helpful, and becoming a trusted, supportive presence in a busy family environment. In this role, you are: • Experienced in household management, able to take ownership of tasks and manage multiple priorities independently, • Proactive and self-directed, anticipating needs without requiring close oversight, • Organized and detail-oriented, ensuring the home stays tidy, systems run smoothly, and nothing falls through the cracks, • Flexible and dependable, comfortable adjusting to the evolving needs and changing schedules of a household with young children, • Warm and nurturing, offering a supportive presence for our children in the absence of nearby extended family This role is a great fit if you: • Enjoy creating order and efficiency in a busy home, • Are comfortable with a mix of household responsibilities and occasional childcare, • Take pride in being helpful, reliable, and making a meaningful impact on a family's day-to-day life Key Responsibilities: This role focuses on keeping the household running smoothly day to day, with a few core priorities that anchor the work. Other responsibilities support the overall flow of the home and are handled as time allows or on an as-needed basis. Weekly Priorities: • Home Systems & Organization: Ensure the home runs smoothly by maintaining organization systems, managing day-to-day tasks, and assisting with laundry, errands, and inventory management., • Backup & Evolving Childcare Support: Initially provide light childcare, with the potential to take on more as the children grow, including school and activity pickups and occasional care., • Food Prep: Prepping meals for the week is extremely important. Those core daily and weekly responsibilities come first, but once handled, I welcome support in other areas based on time, energy, and specific household needs that week, including: Household Management & Organization • Maintain existing household organization systems (closets, storage, pantry, toys), • Reset and tidy rooms daily (load/unload dishwasher, wipe surfaces, vacuum high traffic areas); maintain overall neatness, ensure home is regularly prepped for cleaning services, • Oversee household schedules and calendars, • Conduct seasonal swaps (clothing, dcor, bedding, etc.), • Prepare for family events, holidays, and guest stays, • Prepare and coordinate donation drop offs and pick ups, • Support packing/unpacking for travel or seasonal transitions, • Supervise or coordinate with service providers/vendors (e.g., handymen, cleaners, landscapers) Inventory Management & Errands • Track and restock pantry, fridge, toiletries, household supplies, • Create and manage running household supply lists, • Coordinate and manage household orders (Amazon, Costco, Target, etc.), • Run errands: returns, dry cleaning, gift shopping, • Handle package pickup, mail sorting, and deliveries - put away items, break down boxes, sort bills to be paid, etc., • Put away items from weekly grocery deliveries Meal Planning & Preparation • Pack camp/school lunches, • Shop for groceries and meal-related items, • Follow dietary needs and family preferences, • Clean kitchen post-prep and manage kitchen tidiness Laundry & Linen Care • Wash, dry, fold, and organize family laundry (e.g., clothing, bedding, towels), • Iron, steam, and prepare outfits as needed, • Manage linens: rotate bedding weekly, refresh towels, restock essentials, • Keep laundry areas tidy and well-stocked with supplies Vehicle Management • Schedule and oversee maintenance, oil changes, and inspections, • Ensure vehicles are cleaned and organized, • Track registration, insurance, and service schedules Vendor & Property Oversight • Oversee the schedule, maintain existing systems and supervise service providers (cleaners, contractors, landscapers), • Research and coordinate repairs, maintenance, and quotes, • Serve as primary contact for all vendors or guests Family Support & Child Assistance • Assist with school/activity pick-ups or drop-offs as needed, • Provide light supervision, playtime, or back-up childcare and be open to stepping into a more hands-on role as the children grow, • Additional flexibility appreciated 4 weeks in the June – August timeframe due to work schedule and kids being out of school, • Create a system for prepping backpacks, clothing, or snacks for camp and school during times that I have the kids., • Help with child-related laundry or errands, including rotating clothing sizes Deep Cleaning & Special Projects • Coordinate with cleaner to tackle rotating deep cleans (fridge, oven, baseboards, etc.), • Maintain and refresh specific zones (entryways, garage, etc), • Clean and fill humidifiers (daily), washing machines, and air purifiers (monthly), • Organize special projects: toy storage, seasonal decorations, gear rotation Administrative & Personal Assistant Support • Manage family calendars and reminders, • Handle basic budgeting or receipt tracking, • Assist with coordination of events, appointments, and guest prep, vendors for birthday parties How to Apply: Please submit: • A short letter introducing yourself and explaining why you'd be a great fit., • Your updated resume.
