CRST The Transportation Solution is seeking a Government Services Director to lead the strategy, growth, and execution of our U.S. military freight program across all service branches. This role is built for a proven DoD freight leader who has owned carrier performance inside the Defense Transportation System and brings the credibility to shape long-term relationships at the installation and program level. This is a high-impact opportunity for someone who understands how government freight truly works - tenders, compliance, agent networks, and capacity - and can translate that expertise into a scalable program that drives meaningful growth for CRST and reliable service for the men and women of the U.S. military. How You'll Work • Location: Preference for candidates open to relocating to Birmingham, AL (Flatbed Solutions HQ)., • Travel: Up to 50%, based on installation engagement, agent development, and business needs, • Compensation: This pay scale represents a good faith estimate of the salary wage range the company reasonably expects to pay upon hire for this position: $90,000-$150,000 per year. This role is not about transactional freight moves. It is about deep program ownership, regulatory credibility, and the ability to represent CRST as a trusted partner to the people who move the U.S. military. What You'll Do • Own the overall strategy and roadmap to accelerate CRST's DoD book of business, including lane targeting, pricing strategy, capacity sourcing, and margin management, • Serve as the primary point of contact with Transportation Officers and DoD installations across all geographies, aligning CRST's service model to installation needs and preferences, • Lead all activities related to DoD tenders and solicitations under CRST's SCAC codes, including awards, refusals, and performance management through the sales agent network, • Design and execute a regional development plan for increasing government freight, identifying where to add new agents or expand responsibilities of existing agents, • Develop and enforce best-practice playbooks for agents handling DoD freight, including tender triage, response time standards, communication expectations, and escalation paths, • Leverage CRST's owner-operator model and brokerage authority to design capacity strategies for flatbed, oversize, and specialized military freight, including surge deployment and port-related operations, • Own key relationships with primes, 3PLs, and program integrators under DFTS and related programs to capture subcontract and parallel freight opportunities, • Ensure rigorous compliance with all applicable DoD, DTR, and DoDI 4500.57 transportation and traffic management policies, including security, HAZMAT, AA&E where applicable, and financial auditability of transportation payments, • Establish KPIs and reporting for the government services program and report regularly to executive leadership on performance, revenue, and capacity utilization, • Program ownership: You hold the full DoD freight program - strategy, agents, compliance, and performance - and operate with the confidence of someone who has done this after, • Revenue growth: The DoD book of business scales steadily, with staged targets hit at acceptable margins and a clear path to long-term program expansion, • Agent excellence: Your regional agent network is structured, accountable, and consistently responsive - with playbooks that drive performance and reduce execution risk, • Regulatory credibility: Zero major compliance events, clean financial auditability, and a reputation with DoD installations as a carrier that follows the rules and delivers on commitments, • 7–10+ years in transportation or logistics, including 3–5+ years directly managing or selling DoD freight - general freight and/or AA&E/sensitive cargo - with measurable growth results, • Demonstrated success building or significantly growing a DoD freight program, including responsibility for tenders, pricing, and performance, • Deep understanding of how Transportation Officers and DoD installations operate freight programs, and how commercial carriers fit into the Defense Transportation System and DTR framework, • Hands-on experience with DoD freight platforms and processes, including SDDC successor processes, DFTS or similar third-party programs, TPPS billing, and relevant tender systems, • Proven ability to work through agent networks, including training, performance management, and change management for independent sales agents, • Background in flatbed, heavy-haul, or specialized carrier operations handling military freight, project cargo, or deployment moves, • Prior leadership role specifically focused on Government Services, DoD Programs, Defense Logistics, or a comparable program, • Existing or prior security clearance, or demonstrated eligibility to obtain one, • Familiarity with DoD financial and auditability requirements for transportation payments, including TPPS and DFAS processes Core Values • Safety at the Core of All We Do, • Integrity in Every Decision and Action
