Job Description POSITION Details Department: Outreach & Engagement Position Reports To: Vice President, Partnerships & Engagement FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Pay Range: $65,000 – $75,000 Schedule: Full-Time (37.5 hours per week) About Hudson River Park Trust Hudson River Park is a dynamic, public park along the West Side of Manhattan that spans four miles from Chambers Street to West 59th Street. The Park welcomes millions of visitors annually, with its distinct, landscaped piers and a wide range of public amenities including gardens, lawn areas, athletic fields, boating docks, public art and other special features. The Park was established by New York State legislation in 1998 that created the Hudson River Park Trust (“the Trust”) and charged it with the design, construction, maintenance and operation of this unique space that also includes a 400-acre Estuarine Sanctuary. The Trust is a public benefit corporation and 501(c)(3) charitable organization that is financially self-supporting, generating its annual operating expenses from select commercial uses and concessions located within the Park’s boundaries. This funding model sustains the Trust’s operations and ongoing Park maintenance, ensuring that it remains a vital community asset to enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors alike. The Trust employs a passionate staff of 90 full-time with experience in parks, design, programming, finance, marine science, public policy, operations and maintenance. Job Summary The Community Outreach Coordinator is newly created position and is part of the Trust’s Outreach & Engagement department, a connecting point between Hudson River Park and the diverse communities that rely on it. As part of the Outreach & Engagement team, the Community Outreach Coordinator will play a key role in implementing inclusive and mission-driven outreach, building and strengthening meaningful connections between the Park and its robust range of partners. The Coordinator will serve as a representative of the Trust at community and partner meetings, and by creating and supporting partner programs, communication efforts and more. The Community Outreach Coordinator will draft communications of all types, including reports, letters, public inquiries, emails and social media posts, and will help plan, promote and implement efforts that enhance public awareness and encourage participation in the Park’s offerings. The Coordinator will also coordinate with staff from other Trust departments to share and coordinate information. Essential JOB RESPONSIBILITES/Functions • Support the development and execution of community outreach strategies to increase public engagement and awareness of the Park., • Serve as a liaison to key community partners, including neighborhood associations, community groups, and non-profit Park tenants. Represent the Trust at assigned working groups, associations and partnerships., • Represent the Trust and Park at community board meetings, town halls, local events, and other public forums. Prepare and deliver presentations and talking points on key topics in coordination with Trust leadership., • Coordinate logistics for community meetings, public events and educational workshops, including planning, promotion, registration, execution and follow-up., • Maintain organized contact lists for ongoing communications and track key partner events., • Draft a wide range of communications including letters, testimonials, public comments, reports, emails and social media posts., • Work with various Trust departments to support community outreach efforts as needed. Facilitate cross-departmental and multi-stakeholder projects., • Gather community feedback through evaluation and regular communication. Track and report trends to relevant internal teams for action and follow-up., • Respond to general inquiries, provide updates on park activities and ensure that the Trust is viewed as a positive and responsive community partner. Education & Experience Requirements • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience; and, • Three or more years of relevant experience in community engagement, public outreach, communications or a related field. KEY Competencies • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and communicate effectively across diverse communities., • Excellent written communication skills in formal, informal and creative formats., • A high degree of diplomacy, outstanding relationship building and customer-service skills, • Demonstrated ability to anticipate needs, take initiative and work independently., • Comfort speaking professionally in both formal and informal settings., • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines., • Familiarity with the neighborhoods along Manhattan’s west side and local stakeholder groups., • Passion for parks, public space and community development., • Bilingual and multilingual candidates particularly with Spanish and/or Mandarin skills are encouraged to apply. Work Environment & Physical Demands • Work is generally performed in a standard office environment. Periodically, activities are performed on-site in the field., • This role will require regular evening and weekend work to support events and community meetings., • Ability to operate office equipment such as computers, printers and Microsoft office suite of software., • Ability to lift small loads up to 25 pounds., • Ability to drive with a valid driver’s license.
