About the Role: The Electro-Optical Systems team is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Senior Optical Engineer to support the design, manufacturing, integration, testing, and operation of advanced imaging payloads. This role involves collaborating across teams to develop, troubleshoot, and refine optical instruments, including telescopes and cameras, for Earth observation missions. The ideal candidate thrives at the intersection of hardware, software, and product engineering and enjoys hands-on work with cutting-edge imaging and optical systems. The team is responsible for electro-optical (EO) design and development while assembling, integrating and testing (AI&T) all EO payload hardware. About the Role: As a Senior Analyst, International Trade Compliance (ITC) for Planet, you will be a member of the ITC Team within Planet's global Legal organization and will have the opportunity to work on issues that may have large compliance and/or financial implications for the company. You will routinely interface with engineers, supply chain, IT, security, sales, and other local and international personnel, as well as external counsel and vendors to mitigate compliance risks and support secure and efficient global trade licensing and operations. In this role, your primary focus area will be on compliance with export/import laws/regulations, while providing support as well for economic sanctions and anti-bribery/anti-corruption compliance. The successful candidate will have solid work experience in the satellite and/or aerospace/defense industry with past work experience in the areas of contracting, international trade and/or legal. The position will be responsible for integrating export/import regulations into business, preparing and managing all types of DDTC and BIS licenses/authorizations and ensuring legal compliance to maximize business outcomes for Planet. This is a full-time, remote position based in the United States. If located near an office, you are expected to work from that office 3 days per week. The candidate will work closely with postdoctoral fellows and other lab members to investigate novel biology in fungal development. We take a number of molecular approaches, including genetics and genomics, with a focus on RNA biology. The candidate will be expected to generate genetic tools and conduct microbiology and molecular biology techniques, including fungal culturing, cloning, protein purification, and biochemical assays. An exceptional candidate will lead their own independent project, develop new ideas, be familiar with the literature, and participate in procurement of funds, where appropriate.
