Job DescriptionJob Title: Quality Inspector Job Description The Quality Inspector supports production by ensuring that components, assemblies, and processes meet all specified requirements. This role performs inspections on production materials as well as engineering or unreleased products, using a variety of measurement tools, statistical techniques, and quality methodologies to maintain high standards of product reliability and conformance. Responsibilities • Sample, inspect, and test components, sub-assemblies, and complete systems to verify conformance to specifications., • Perform setup and inspection of complex materials, assemblies, and products using appropriate measurement and test equipment., • Conduct process audits for conformance to requirements, including 5S audits and other quality system checks., • Work with suppliers and internal teams to inspect incoming materials and determine material disposition., • Support the Material Review Board (MRB) by ensuring proper segregation, identification, and disposition of discrepant materials., • Facilitate, create, and update inspection documentation, forms, and records as needed., • Review inspection documentation accompanying materials to ensure full compliance with requirements and standards., • Apply statistical techniques, including sampling methods, distributions, CpK, PpK, PPM calculations, and control charts to monitor and improve quality performance., • Use measurement and test equipment (M&TE), such as micrometers and calipers, to perform accurate dimensional inspections., • Read and interpret technical and assembly drawings, including practical application of GD&T, to verify design and dimensional requirements., • Apply inspection concepts, techniques, and processes, including various audit types, audit components, and tools and techniques., • Perform first piece inspections and properly complete associated documentation to validate initial production runs., • Complete and audit assembly-related documentation, including First Piece Inspection forms, deviations, quality alerts, and red tag processes., • Read and comprehend work instructions used to assemble HVAC units and verify that work is performed according to these instructions., • Enter data accurately into computer systems and operate testing equipment that requires basic computer skills., • Communicate inspection findings and quality issues effectively with production, engineering, suppliers, and other levels of the organization., • Support continuous improvement activities by identifying quality issues, participating in problem-solving, and suggesting process improvements., • Conduct visual inspections of sheet metal, electronic, and plastic components as required., • Perform quality checks on production and sub-assembly operations to ensure ongoing compliance throughout the manufacturing process.Essential Skills, • Proven ability to sample, inspect, and test components, assemblies, and systems in a manufacturing environment., • Strong understanding of statistical techniques, including sampling concepts, distributions, CpK, PpK, PPM calculations, and use of control charts., • Hands-on experience with measurement and test equipment (M&TE), including micrometers and calipers., • Ability to read and interpret technical and assembly drawings, including practical application of GD&T., • Solid knowledge of inspection concepts, techniques, and processes, including audit types, audit components, and inspection tools and techniques., • Competence in preparing, reviewing, and maintaining inspection documentation and quality records., • Basic computer skills for accurate data entry and operation of testing equipment., • Ability to read and comprehend detailed work instructions, particularly those used to assemble HVAC units., • Ability to properly complete and audit assembly-related documentation, including First Piece Inspection forms, deviations, quality alerts, and red tag processes., • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact at all levels of the organization., • High school education or equivalent., • Intermediate reading and math skills, including report writing and algebraic and geometrical calculations., • Ability to perform visual inspections and quality checks on production and sub-assembly operations.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • ASQ Certified Quality Inspector credential is preferred., • Knowledge of 5S principles and one-piece flow is highly desirable., • More than 3 years of related experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred., • Some college coursework or formal technical training in quality, manufacturing, or a related field is beneficial., • Familiarity with LEAN and Six Sigma principles or advanced manufacturing experience is an advantage., • Previous experience inspecting sheet metal, electronic, and plastic components is preferred., • Experience performing first piece inspections in a production environment., • Comfort working with production, sub-assembly, and final assembly processes., • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a clean, well-maintained manufacturing environment with excellent lighting, ambient room temperature, and traditional assembly line production equipment. The primary work setting encourages frequent interaction with co-workers and collaboration with production and quality teams. Multiple shift options are available, including a weekday first shift from 5:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and second shift roles from 4:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday, with a shift premium for second shift positions. Overtime may be required based on customer demand, including mandatory rotating schedules on Fridays. Regular employees in good standing who meet position requirements and have been in their current role for at least six months may be eligible for internal movement opportunities. The area is free from oils and other disagreeable elements, though certain zones require personal protective equipment such as respirators, gloves, and mandatory hearing protection. Safety glasses and closed-toe, closed-heel shoes are required in all manufacturing areas to maintain a safe working environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rockford, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
