Job Description Job Title: Mechanical Assembler Job Description This role focuses on assembling test filtration machinery and related equipment to meet strict production and quality standards. You will read and interpret blueprints, select appropriate assembly methods, and use hand and power tools to fit, align, and assemble mechanical and electrical components into complete units. The position involves both mechanical and basic electrical tasks, including piping, wiring, and testing to ensure safe and reliable operation of the finished machinery. Responsibilities • Assemble test filtration machinery and related equipment in accordance with production and quality standards., • Select appropriate assembly methods and erection procedures based on blueprints and engineering drawings., • Fit, align, and assemble manufactured or purchased parts, motors, pumps, and subassemblies into completed units., • Make necessary electrical and piping connections to complete the assembly of units., • Position parts according to unit layout or engineering drawings to ensure accurate and precise assembly., • Fasten parts together using bolts, screws, speed clips, and other appropriate fasteners., • Drill and tap holes for fasteners where required to support proper assembly., • Use hand and power tools to cut and fit pipe and tubing as needed for the machinery., • Align subassemblies and equipment to meet specified tolerances and operating requirements., • Remove small quantities of metal with hand files to achieve close fits between parts and ensure smooth operation., • Visually inspect parts and assemblies for correct fit, alignment, and surface defects, and report any discrepancies to supervision., • Perform operating tests on components and completed units to verify proper function and performance., • Make final adjustments to assemblies and equipment based on test results to ensure reliable operation., • Assist with troubleshooting mechanical and basic electrical issues during assembly and testing., • Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work area while working with hand and power tools. Essential Skills • Proficiency in mechanical assembly of machinery and equipment., • Ability to read, understand, and work from blueprints and engineering drawings., • Skilled in the use of hand and power tools for assembly, drilling, tapping, cutting, and fitting., • Experience fitting, aligning, and assembling parts, motors, pumps, and subassemblies into complete units., • Capability to make basic electrical and piping connections during assembly., • Ability to cut and fit pipe and tubing accurately to specifications., • Competence in drilling and tapping holes for fasteners and structural connections., • Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical and basic electrical issues during assembly and testing., • Ability to perform visual inspections to identify fit, alignment, and surface defects., • Experience conducting operating tests on components and completed units and making final adjustments., • Knowledge of hydraulics, mechanical systems, and machine building principles., • Familiarity with preventive maintenance concepts and basic maintenance practices., • Ability to work safely with hand tools, power tools, and assembly equipment. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Machine assembly, fabrication, or construction-related assembly work., • Experience with welding in a manufacturing or assembly environment., • Exposure to electrical and mechanical maintenance tasks., • Experience working as a maintenance technician or in a similar mechanically oriented role., • Comfort working with wiring, basic electrical connections, and simple control components., • Ability to interpret and follow detailed layouts and assembly instructions., • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work., • Ability to collaborate effectively with team members and communicate issues clearly. Work Environment This is a hands-on industrial environment with multiple shift options. There are positions available on first shift (typically 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.) and second shift (typically 3:15 p.m. to 11:45 p.m.), with a 30-minute lunch break. Standard shifts are 8 hours, with the possibility of extending to 10 hours as needed. You may be asked to work up to 8 hours on Saturdays when required, and some days may start as early as 6:00 a.m., so flexibility with scheduling is important. The facility is a well-lit, character-filled building dating back to 1906, with numerous windows and a unique industrial atmosphere. Temperatures may vary with the seasons and are not always fully controlled, ranging from warm in the summer to cooler in the winter. During hotter months, fans and open doors help circulate air, and cold drinks and frozen treats are provided to help keep employees comfortable. The role involves regular use of hand and power tools, working around machinery, and performing physical tasks typical of a mechanical assembly environment, with appropriate work attire suitable for an industrial shop floor. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rockford, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00/hr.
