Job DescriptionDescription: Zepf Center has been serving the Lucas County community for over 50 years. We are the leading provider of behavioral health and substance use disorder services in Northwest Ohio. Services include adult and child psychiatric, substance abuse, case management, residential, Crisis Care, and therapy programs, as well as career development and wellness services. Zepf Center also offers primary care medical services to our patients to contribute to their continuum of care. Zepf Center is a trauma-informed agency and environment for both patients and staff. General Summary: • The primary purpose of this position is to provide medications and treatments for clients and to manage medications received from pharmacy. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Provide administrative and clinical support., • Provide excellent customer service to patients, • Schedule appointments for patients as needed., • Maintain and provide excellent communication with medical providers., • Obtain prior authorizations for medications and treatments for clients., • Complete medication pass for clients on the inpatient units assigned, • Assist with admissions and discharges to the inpatient units, • Enroll clients in drug assistance programs; check in medication when it arrives., • Work with pharmaceutical companies to obtain sample medications., • Answer and/or triage patient calls and communicate with appropriate practitioner/provider follow up within allotted time frame as outlined in agency standards., • Obtain vital signs., • Follow up on requested labs to facilitate communication with the doctor and the client., • Assist and provide support for the clinical and/or administrative staff within your scope of practice., • Participate in agency-wide projects and staff development; comply with policies and procedures of agency; perform other related duties as assigned., • Perform other duties as assigned. Job Description Summary The Medical Assistant is responsible for general clinical and procedural patient care under the direction and guidance of the center’s physicians or nurse practitioners. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Patient/Customer Focus: Makes patients and their needs a primary focus of one’s actions; shows interest in and understanding of the needs and expectations of internal and external customers; gains patient trust and respect; meets or exceeds patient’s expectations • In coordination with providers and other staff, ensures smooth and efficient patient flow., • Interviews patients to obtain an appropriate history and current medical information for the patients’ record. Obtains check-in information including chief complaint, current medications list, vital signs, etc., • Furnishes the patient with appropriate information on health-related issues, as directed by the physician/nurse practitioner., • Documents all patient encounters using appropriate medical terminology. Ensures that patient charts are completed and documentation is in the patient’s chart., • Meets state and national regulatory compliance issues. Provides a safe environment for patients and others., • As directed by the physician/nurse practitioner, independently performs procedures which may include venipuncture, administration of injections, pulmonary function tests, ear irrigations, ultra sound therapy, muscle stimulation, hot/cold packs, EKGs, breathing treatment, , lab testing, , dressing changes, wound cleaning, hearing and vision tests, etc., • Properly sets up and assists physician/nurse practitioner with surgical and medical procedures, e.g. flex sigs, colposcopy, minor wound repair, foreign body removals, etc., • Maintains a basic understanding of commonly dispensed pharmaceuticals, their indications, dosages, adverse reactions, and administration techniques. As directed by the physician/nurse practitioner, calls in prescriptions to the pharmacy. Properly inventories and orders routine medical and medically-related supplies and services., • Upon physician/nurse practitioner order, advises patients of testing and referral results and ensures that appropriate follow-up call is provided., • Explains billing process for SFS patients needing lab work, and lab discount information., • Accurately record lab codes and diagnostic codes when drawing blood., • Documents messages in EMR system, handles or distributes mail and faxes., • Prepares patient documentation for clinician (have ER reports, test results, hospital records)., • Keeps exam room neat, clean and supplied., • Responds to incoming and outgoing correspondence. Assures that appropriate signed releases are acquired and office records and forms are distributed and forwarded to appropriate parties., • Manages patient flow and pays attention to the needs of the patient and the clinician., • Actively supports the Mission, Vision and Values of CHCGD., • Actively participates in staff meetings, in-services and training sessions., • Remains open to feedback for improvement., • Suggests new ways to address issues., • Shares patient, office or workflow concerns and possible solutions for resolution., • High School diploma or equivalent certificate; 0-2 years’ experience preferred., • Completion of an accredited medical assistant program required; certification preferred. Maintains current certification with CEU requirements., • Prior experience in an ambulatory health care facility preferred., • Ability to learn related center tasks and be of assistance to management, physicians, and nurse practitioners., • Self-motivated to achieve the highest patient care and customer service standards., • Current CPR certification., • Knowledge of ICD -10 and CPT coding. Must be able to see, sit, stand, bend, stoop, hear and lift up to 20 pounds. Must demonstrate manual dexterity in order to follow necessary clinical procedures.

This position gathers collateral data at the scene. The worker can also provide transportation for clients to/from community sites. All job functions are performed under the supervision of the Crisis Services Manager. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS • In collaboration with the Crisis Clinician, gathers collateral data at the scene to help resolve crisis within the community., • Accompanies clinician health officers in pre-hospital screening with clients in the community., • Works with client’s primary psychiatrist, case manager and/or counselor., • Manages the care of clients in consultation with the Crisis Clinician, Team Leader, client’s primary case manager, counselor and doctor. Makes phone calls and coordinates services., • Provides one-on-one assistance to clients and significant others or families, monitors behavior and mental status of clients at the crisis scene, and documents appropriate services in client charts., • Answers the Hotline, gathers collateral information and provides information and referrals to community services., • Transports clients to and from community sites as needed., • Works flexibly with other team members., • Attends agency and unit meetings, completes reports (e.g. contact sheets, shift reports, crisis alerts, etc.), and performing all necessary chart and telephone documentation in a timely manner., • Ensure competence and annual certification in the following areas: CPR and First Aid, and Crisis Intervention., • Utilize respectful, trauma-informed language in all aspects of the job., • Collaborate with treatment team to support techniques that are client-first and include trust and respect, • Promote and support Trauma Informed Care implementation and initiatives within the organization, • Use the Trauma Informed Care approach to work collaboratively with clients and other team members (internal and external) to help support clients in their treatment and recovery, • Must be able to react to change and stress productively and to handle other related tasks as assigned., • Must be able to maintain regular and predictable attendance and punctuality., • Must be able to get along with others and work as a team., • Must exhibit the knowledge, skills, abilities, and minimum requirements listed in this Position Description., • Must be able to follow and conform to the treatment plan of the clients on the residential unit., • Other related duties as instructed by the team leaders Requirements: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED • In order to perform the essential functions of this job, after an orientation period, the employee must possess the following: a working knowledge of Riveon Mental Health and Recovery Policy and Procedures, including sensitivity and adherence to clients’ rights, confidentiality, and health and safety issues; good interpersonal skills in order to interact efficiently with clients, doctors, other clinicians, and in dealing with the public on the hot line calls; the ability to assess clients’ strengths, needs, and individual situations; knowledge of mental illness and psychotropic medications; must have a working familiarity with treatment plans., • Must be able to work independently and to follow directions of various team leaders and shift supervisors., • Must exhibit sensitivity to different cultures. WORKING CONDITIONS • The majority of the time is spent in the community., • The individual will have a large amount of client contact and must have excellent language and speaking skills., • The individual may also spend a portion of their time on the phone., • This individual may periodically be required to lift and/or carry up to 10 pounds., • Must be able to physically interact with client and others in emergency situations to prevent harm to client and others., • The individual in this position must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing., • Due to the computer work this individual must be able to sit for extended periods of time and operate required equipment. REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS • Associate's degree in a related field and experience in mental health is preferred, along with good interpersonal skills and oral/ written communication. Prior work experience, education and training in lieu of the degree will be considered., • The necessity for travel in this job requires that the employee possess a valid Ohio driver’s license with less than 6 points in a 36-month period, have proof of adequate personal automobile insurance, and use of a personal vehicle., • Must be able to work differing shifts, weekends, and holidays., • Must have favorable references and/or evaluations., • Candidates with educational backgrounds and training in trauma-informed and/or trauma-specific services, a plus.
