Job Description The Executive Director of Operations serves as the senior operational leader responsible for ensuring excellent, consistent, and compliant operations across Rocky Mountain Prep's network of schools. Reporting to the Deputy Chief of Operations, this role leads the implementation of network operational priorities across five core functions through direct and matrixed leadership of campus and network operations staff: Emergency Response & Crisis Management (ERCM), Facilities, Scheduling, High-Stakes Assessment Oversight, and Vendor & Partnership Management. The Executive Director of Operations ensures that every school has the systems, infrastructure, and support necessary to operate safely, efficiently, and in alignment with Rocky Mountain Prep's mission and values. This role partners closely with school leaders, Assistant Principals of Operations, the Family & Community Engagement team, and other network departments to translate strategy into effective execution and measurable results. The Executive Director of Operations plays a critical role in building operational consistency, strengthening school-based capacity, and creating conditions that allow educators to focus on student achievement. Core Duties and Responsibilities Operations Strategy & Ownership • Lead the implementation of school-based operational priorities, systems, and initiatives related to their core work (Emergency Response & Crisis Management (ERCM), Facilities, Scheduling, High-Stakes Assessment Oversight, and Vendor & Partnership Management) to the standard established by their manager., • Ensure operational consistency and excellence across all campuses through clear standards, accountability systems, and performance monitoring., • Develop and maintain operational dashboards, metrics, and reporting processes to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement., • Partner with school leaders and Assistant Principals of Operations to ensure strong execution of operational systems and compliance requirements., • Promote a customer-service mindset across all operational functions, centering the experience of students, families, and school teams., • Collaborate closely with Family & Community Engagement leadership to support attendance, safety, family experience, and student success initiatives., • Identify operational challenges and recommend solutions that improve efficiency, effectiveness, and school outcomes. Emergency Response & Crisis Management (ERCM) • Lead the maintenance and continuous improvement of the network’s emergency response and crisis management systems, ensuring every APO and lead team is prepared to respond effectively to any safety incident or emergency., • Oversee the design and execution of emergency preparedness plans, drills, protocols, and training across all 12 schools, in compliance with district, state, and federal safety requirements., • Serve as the senior operational lead during active crises or emergencies, coordinating response across school principals, APOs, the RMP Comms team, district partners, and first responders as needed., • Build a culture of safety and preparedness across the network, equipping campus incident commanders with the tools, training, and decision-making frameworks to act quickly and effectively., • Partner with the Chief Legal Officer and school leadership on incident documentation, reporting obligations, and post-incident review processes., • Partner with the Managing Director of Communications on all school-based crisis comms., • Ensure strong coordination with the Deputy Chief of FACE during any crisis that affects student and family communication, well-being, or re-engagement. Facilities Management • Ensure all 12 campuses maintain safe, clean, compliant, and well-functioning physical environments that support joyful, excellent learning by developing a vision and standard with aligned rubrics and accountability structures., • Oversee facilities planning, preventive maintenance systems, capital project coordination, and health & safety compliance across the network and particularly at the owned Tennyson location., • Partner with APOs to identify and resolve facilities issues quickly and effectively., • Work directly with the Deputy Chief of Strategic Projects and the Projects Director to lead planning for new school openings, relocations, and major facilities upgrades in coordination with the sustainability and finance functions., • Manage facilities vendor relationships, including janitorial, maintenance, and grounds services; work in close collaboration with the Chief Legal & People Officer, who holds final approval authority on all vendor contracts. High-Stakes Assessment Oversight • Oversee the logistics, coordination, and execution of all state and federally mandated high-stakes assessments across the network, including CMAS, ACCESS, SAT, and other required testing programs., • Ensure full compliance with assessment administration requirements, including test security, accommodations, scheduling, and timely reporting., • Partner with academic and school leaders to minimize instructional disruption and ensure schools are fully prepared well in advance of each testing window., • Serve as the primary operational point of contact for external assessment vendors and state/district assessment offices; all related contracts are reviewed and approved in partnership with the Chief Legal & People Officer., • Oversee scheduling systems and support, helping schools build master schedules that are compliant, equitable, and aligned to instructional priorities. Team Management & Development • Directly manage the Director of Operations, and two float Operations., • Provide dotted line coaching and development for operations leaders, including intensive support for a portfolio of campuses (alongside the Director of Operations who will provide support to the remainder of the school based leaders), • Build operational leadership capacity across the network, including APOs and campus operations staff., • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and service., • Partner with the FACE team and school principals to ensure ops teams hit the network retention goals and Culture Amp goals., • Support succession planning and leadership development across operational functions., • Coach APOs and Front Office members in a portfolio of schools Cross-Functional Leadership • Partner with the Chief Achievement Officer to execute network operational priorities and long-term initiatives., • Collaborate with the Chief Legal Officer on compliance, risk management, contract administration, and regulatory requirements., • Work closely with Finance, Strategy, Sustainability, Academic, and FACE teams to ensure operational systems effectively support organizational goals., • Represent the operations function in cross-functional planning, implementation, and problem-solving efforts., • Support organizational growth initiatives, including school openings, transitions, and major operational projects., • Partner with the FACE team to ensure cross collaboration of APOs and Front Office teams in driving operational excellence in Attendance, Persistence and Enrollment, • Serve as the District Liaison with Portfolio Services, Department of Safety and Facilities team Qualifications Required: • Demonstrated experience leading large-scale operational functions in a multi-site organization., • Experience managing leaders and driving execution across multiple operational workstreams., • Strong project management, systems-thinking, and problem-solving skills., • Ability to influence stakeholders and build strong relationships across departments., • Experience using operational metrics and data to drive decision-making and continuous improvement., • Strong commitment to equity, inclusion, and serving historically marginalized communities. Years of Experience: • 5–8+ years of progressive professional experience in operations, education leadership, or a related field., • At least 3 years managing teams and/or leaders. Education: • Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree in business, operations, public administration, education leadership, or a related field highly preferred.Compensation $140,000 - $190,000. This range reflects the full growth potential of the role over time. Rocky Mountain Prep typically expects to place candidates in the lower- to middle-range, depending on experience, qualifications, and internal equity considerations.
