Job Description Mechatronics & Robotics Apprentice (MRA) Job Description This permanent, full-time Mechatronics & Robotics Apprentice (MRA) role is based in CITY, STATE and sits at the heart of high-speed, high-accuracy operations within a highly automated distribution environment. As an apprentice, you will learn to combine electronic, mechanical, computer, and automation engineering skills while working hands-on with complex, high-performance manufacturing and material handling systems. You will support the installation, maintenance, and repair of automated packaging and distribution equipment, help ensure preventative maintenance is completed on time and to a high standard, and contribute to high levels of equipment availability and process efficiency, all while adhering to strict safety regulations and policies. Throughout the program, you will work alongside experienced technicians and journey workers, receive mentoring, and develop the communication and teamwork skills needed to coordinate effectively with upstream and downstream operations partners. Responsibilities • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on conveyance and material handling equipment using appropriate job plans, procedures, and technical manuals., • Conduct maintenance and basic troubleshooting of robotics and robotic work cells to support reliable and efficient operation., • Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues related to all material handling equipment components to minimize downtime and maintain process efficiency., • Maintain and troubleshoot motors, photo eyes, relays, proximity sensors, solenoids, motor starters, tachometers, and related control devices., • Assist in the installation, maintenance, and repair of automated packaging and distribution equipment in high-automation and robotics facilities., • Follow technical documents, work instructions, and safety procedures to complete tasks accurately and in compliance with relevant regulations and company policies., • Ensure all work adheres to safety regulations and policies, and support the implementation of safety standards across maintenance activities., • Collaborate closely with upstream and downstream operations partners to coordinate maintenance activities and minimize operational disruptions., • Communicate effectively with team members, senior technicians, and other stakeholders to report issues, share updates, and support continuous improvement., • Participate in on-the-job learning (OJL) under the guidance of journey workers and senior technicians to build skills in analyzing, troubleshooting, and repairing complex systems., • Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying recurring issues, suggesting improvements, and helping to implement best practices in maintenance and operations., • Meet physical requirements of the role, including moving up to 49 lbs, standing and walking for shifts up to 12 hours, climbing ladders and gangways safely, and performing regular bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching., • Attend and successfully complete a 9-week training program at a designated training provider as part of the apprenticeship requirements., • Work flexible schedules, including weekends, nights, and holidays, as required by operational needs., • Remain flexible to relocate after completion of the program, in line with program requirements. Essential Skills • High School Diploma., • 1+ years of PC software experience, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook., • Vocational or technical training, an associate degree or higher, or 1+ years of experience in a reliability maintenance engineering environment., • Experience troubleshooting and repairing operational items in a technical or maintenance setting., • Knowledge of mathematics sufficient to support measurement, calculation, and technical problem-solving., • Experience reading and interpreting measurements accurately., • Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends, nights, and holidays., • Ability to move up to 49 lbs, stand and walk for shifts lasting up to 12 hours, climb ladders and gangways safely, and perform regular bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching above the head and below the waist., • Effective communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment., • Self-motivation and the ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced, technical environment., • Ability to follow technical documents, procedures, and safety guidelines with attention to detail. Additional Skills & Qualifications • 4+ years of military experience, particularly in technical, mechanical, or electrical roles., • Experience conducting predictive and preventative maintenance procedures on industrial or material handling equipment., • Experience troubleshooting and diagnosing material handling equipment (MHE)., • Experience implementing and adhering to safety standards in an industrial or maintenance environment., • Experience reading blueprints and electrical schematics., • Prior experience as a maintenance technician or in a similar mechanical or electro-mechanical role., • Demonstrated ability to work under stressful conditions while maintaining standards of excellence and professionalism., • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment in technical and operational situations. Work Environment The role is based in a highly automated distribution facility in CITY, STATE, where operations run at high speed and high volume to deliver tens of thousands of products across many countries each day. You will work around robotics, robotic work cells, conveyance systems, and a wide range of material handling equipment, using tools, technical documentation, and computer-based systems to perform maintenance and troubleshooting. Shifts can include days, nights, weekends, and holidays, and while preferences are considered, specific shift assignments cannot be guaranteed due to operational requirements. The environment requires frequent standing and walking for up to 12-hour shifts, climbing ladders and gangways, and performing regular bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching, including lifting up to 49 lbs. You will work in close collaboration with other technicians, operations staff, and support teams in a safety-focused culture that emphasizes adherence to federal, state, and local regulations, company policies, and established safety standards. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of San Antonio, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $26.84 - $26.84/hr.
