Job Description TITLE: Program Director – Performing Arts PERFORMANCE PROFILE SOURCE: Individual Contributor DEPARTMENT: Club Operations REPORTS TO: Club Service Director FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt WORKER CATEGORY: Full-Time EMPLOYMENT FUNCTION: Professional LOCATION: Bradley Otis Clubhouse ADDRESS: 700 South Lakeland Ave, Orlando, FL 32805 POSITION SUMMARY: The Program Director, Performing Arts oversees the design and delivery of a dynamic arts program that inspires creativity, skill-building, and personal growth for Boys & Girls Clubs members ages 6–18. The role leads music, dance, theater, and interdisciplinary programming aligned with youth development outcomes, ensuring engaging instruction, safe environments, and opportunities for artistic expression. Responsibilities include planning and producing performances and workshops, fostering collaboration among staff and youth, and providing mentorship that nurtures talent and confidence. The director ensures program quality through curriculum development, evaluation, and staff guidance, while also elevating program visibility through outreach, events, and partnerships. Success in this role requires strong leadership, creative vision, and the ability to balance program innovation with organizational goals and member development. ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Program Management & Youth Development • Plan and oversee the delivery of performing arts programs that support Youth Development Outcomes and align with Boys & Girls Clubs’ mission and core programs., • Develop and implement a cohesive artistic vision across music, vocal, dance, theater, and interdisciplinary disciplines., • Foster creativity, collaboration, and artistic growth among youth participants, staff, and volunteers., • Ensure members receive instruction and feedback that builds skills, confidence, and personal expression., • Demonstrate leadership in maintaining conduct, discipline, safety, and development standards during programming., • Design, develop, and implement a high-quality performing arts curriculum for members ages 6–18 of varying skill levels., • Establish program goals and maintain educational settings that prioritize safety, inclusivity, and youth engagement., • Oversee rehearsals, workshops, recitals, productions, and showcases, ensuring artistic integrity and participant achievement., • Coordinate and support student art exhibitions, concerts, cultural events, and community-based arts initiatives., • Oversee day-to-day program operations, ensuring instructional quality and consistency across performing arts areas., • Supervise and guide program staff and instructors to deliver engaging, age-appropriate, and effective classes., • Ensure program spaces are safe, well-ventilated, and properly equipped for artistic activities., • Maintain accurate program records, including attendance, participant progress, event outcomes, and notable achievements., • Plan and direct seasonal productions, interdisciplinary showcases, and community performances that highlight member achievements., • Increase visibility of performing arts programs through communication channels, including schedules, announcements, flyers, and social media., • Partner with the marketing team to promote classes, events, and performances through newsletters and outreach campaigns., • Ensure Club representation in semesterly YAI culminating events and other community cultural initiatives., • Build and maintain relationships with community partners in the arts to expand programming and provide additional educational opportunities., • Plan and produce four major performances annually to showcase member talent and program impact., • Coordinate and lead field trips to local studios, performances, and cultural events, occasionally including members from other Club branches., • Communicate with parents and guardians regarding member progress, accomplishments, and areas for support. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: (Knowledge, Education, Experience & Skills) Education: • Strong background in one or more performing arts disciplines (e.g., acting, dance, musical theatre, vocal performance, directing, or choreography)., • Minimum of three years of experience developing, managing, or delivering performing arts programs for children and youth., • Demonstrated experience planning and producing performances, recitals, or showcases., • Prior experience supervising staff, teaching artists, or volunteers in an educational or community-based program., • Familiarity with youth development practices and an understanding of children’s educational and creative growth., • Experience engaging with families, community organizations, and partners in the arts to enhance program opportunities., • Solid record of working with diverse populations with flexibility, professionalism, and cultural sensitivity., • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including presentation, instruction, and collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders., • Ability to design, implement, and evaluate arts-based curriculum and programming that aligns with organizational goals., • Group leadership skills, including the ability to foster creativity, collaboration, and positive group dynamics., • Strong organizational and project management skills with attention to detail., • Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and critical thinking capabilities., • Proficiency in standard office software applications (Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace) and comfort with digital/virtual platforms for artistic programming., • Ability to communicate effectively with youth, parents, staff, community partners, and organizational leadership., • Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida. ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS: • The position requires working in both indoor and outdoor environments of an office or club setting, which may involve exposure to varying weather conditions., • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and policy manuals., • Required to operate a motor vehicle for site visits and training events., • Work in environments frequented by children and families, requiring adherence to safety and conduct standards that ensure a child-friendly and family-oriented atmosphere., • This role will have a standard and predictable full-time work schedule. However, all staff must be adaptable to a dynamic work schedule, including evenings to support club activities and events. PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: • Physically capable of performing programming activities and club duties on-site, including lifting up to 30 pounds, standing, sitting, or walking for extended periods, bending, and reaching., • Operates a computer and other office productivity equipment such as a copy machine, phone, printer, and tablet frequently. Requires the ability to work on a computer for extended periods (8+ hours), including performing tasks that involve repetitive motion, visual focus, and fine motor skills, • Visual and auditory acuity to monitor the environment and ensure safety standards are maintained., • Mental resilience and the ability to stay focused and effective in a busy, sometimes noisy environment., • Capacity to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize effectively., • Strong interpersonal skills to interact positively with children, family members, and other staff., • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions (occasionally).
