This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about working with elementary-aged children and creating engaging, safe, and nurturing learning environments outside of the traditional school day. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Program Operations β’ Set up and prepare daily activity spaces and materials before scholar arrival, β’ Clean up and properly store materials and equipment at the end of each session, β’ Track and maintain accurate attendance records for scholars entering and exiting the program, β’ Plan, schedule, and lead age-appropriate enrichment activities that engage elementary scholars, β’ Develop activities that support social-emotional learning and age-appropriate development, β’ Foster a positive, inclusive environment that encourages participation and creativity, β’ Implement and reinforce behavior expectations and routines consistent with the regular school day, β’ Use positive behavior management strategies to create a respectful and safe environment, β’ Support scholars in developing social skills, conflict resolution, and emotional regulation, β’ Plan and coordinate at least one educational field trip per quarter, β’ Complete all required paperwork, permission slips, and safety documentation for field trips, β’ Manage logistics including transportation arrangements, chaperone coordination, and budget considerations in partnership with the After School Program Manager and Operations staff, β’ Communicate with parents/guardians as necessary regarding scholar participation, behavior, and program updates, β’ Maintain organized records and documentation for program compliance, β’ Follow up on outstanding permission slips, medical forms, and other required documentation, β’ Collaborate with school staff and administration as needed Qualifications Required β’ High school diploma or equivalent, β’ Experience working with elementary-aged children (ages 5-11), β’ Ability to pass background check and fingerprinting, β’ Current First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire), β’ Strong organizational and time management skills, β’ Excellent communication skills with children, parents, and staff, β’ Previous experience in after-school programs, summer camps, or classroom settings, β’ Knowledge of social-emotional learning frameworks and trauma-informed practices, β’ Bilingual skills (Spanish, Somali, Vietnamese, or other languages spoken by our community), β’ Ability to stand, walk, and move around for extended periods, β’ Capability to lift up to 25 pounds, β’ Ability to actively supervise and engage with energetic elementary-aged children, β’ Competitive hourly wage, β’ Opportunity to make a meaningful impact on elementary scholars' lives, β’ Professional development opportunities, β’ Collaborative and supportive work environment, β’ Flexible summer employment options available Rainier Valley Leadership Academy is a public, tuition-free, charter school, providing an anti-racist collaborative community and rigorous education, while providing access to civic leadership and college success for all scholars in Seattle.
