Job DescriptionSalary: $70,000-$80,000.00 Summary The Accounting Manager is responsible for the overall administration, management, and operation of The Settlement Home for Childrens financial accounting functions. This position reports to the Human Resources Director and provides leadership for day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance, and monitoring processes. Working closely with the virtual Chief Financial Officer (vCFO), Executive Director, and leadership team, the Accounting Manager ensures fiscal integrity, regulatory compliance, and adherence to nonprofit accounting best practices. Benefits & Perks • 100% paid employee-only medical and dental base plans, group life insurance, and long-term disability, • Vision, voluntary life, and short-term disability available, • 401k match of 50% of the first 6% contributed; 1-year vesting, • Accrue up to 11 paid holidays, 12 days vacation (with increase at 3 years), 88 hours health and wellness leave in first year, 48 hours thereafter, • Free lunch MondayFriday, • Black Swan Yoga online, • Rocket Lawyer, • Robust Employee Assistance Program (EAP), • Annual tenure bonus starting at year 2 Essential Job Functions & Expectations Roles and Responsibilities Accounting & Financial Management • Responsible for financial management, administration, and compliance in accordance with GAAP, regulatory requirements, audit requirements, and nonprofit best practices., • Manages the day-to-day accounting operations of the organization, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and completeness of financial records., • Oversees the Accounting Coordinator to ensure invoices, reimbursements, payroll-related items, and weekend money receipts are processed and tracked accurately and timely., • Manages the full Accounts Receivable and grant revenue cycle, including donor pledges, grant drawdowns, deposits, and reconciliation of restricted and unrestricted funds., • Assists the vCFO with preparation of monthly financial statements, including departmental income statements and budget-to-actual comparisons for the Board of Directors, Executive Director, and Program Directors., • Reconciles general ledger accounts monthly and manages the monthly close process., • Generates monthly program fee and accounts receivable reports, including discrepancy analysis, and distributes reports to Program Directors as appropriate., • Maintains financial records for grants and restricted donations, ensuring accurate billing, reporting, and audit readiness., • Coordinates the annual audit, tax return preparation, and grant monitoring to ensure timely completion without findings., • Maintains fixed asset and depreciation schedules., • Assists the Executive Director and Human Resources Director with insurance policies and renewals., • Works with The Settlement Club Treasurer regarding fundraising activities to ensure revenues and expenses are recorded accurately. Budgeting & Compliance • Assists the vCFO and Executive Director in preparing the annual organizational budget for presentation to the Budget and Finance Committee., • Collects and prepares financial documentation for third-party completion of Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (TDFPS) cost reports, attends annual cost report training, and maintains audit files. Payroll & Benefits • Processes payroll on a semi-monthly basis., • Ensures timely and accurate processing of annual W-2 and 1099 forms. Supervision • Provides direct supervision, training, and performance management to the Accounting Coordinator. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online., • Experience with Ramp expense management system., • Experience with ADP payroll, timekeeping, and 401(k) administration., • Experience with BambooHR preferred., • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles., • Ability to resolve problems using sound judgment consistent with organizational policy and applicable laws., • Strong attention to detail and effective time-management skills., • Ability to interface effectively with all levels of the organization., • Strong analytical and organizational skills., • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities., • Demonstrates integrity, ethical conduct, and confidentiality., • Demonstrates cultural and linguistic competence and professional work habits. Qualifications and Education Requirements • Five (5) to ten (10) years of experience in nonprofit accounting or progressively responsible accounting roles., • Must be at least 21 years of age., • Must meet personnel requirements outlined by Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (TDFPS) Minimum Standards., • Valid drivers license with fewer than two (2) moving violations and/or one (1) accident within the past three (3) years., • Must maintain current auto liability insurance., • Must pass pre-employment drug testing. Preferred Qualifications and Education • Bachelors degree or higher in Accounting or a related field from an accredited university., • Accounting experience within a nonprofit organization., • Experience working with a Board of Directors. Essential Physical Requirements/Working Conditions Subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions. Must be able to lift and/or exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently. Position frequently involves walking, standing, sitting, stooping, lifting, speaking, and repetitive motion. Position may occasionally involve reaching, balancing, kneeling, and crouching. Must have close visual acuity (corrected or uncorrected) so as to prepare and analyze data and figures; perform extensive reading and transcription; perform visual inspections; operate a motor vehicle. Must be able to hear so as to receive detailed information through oral communication; receive information through electronic, telephone, and/or radio frequency.
