Job Description We are looking for a Forklift Operator for a global logistics warehouse located at the Port of New Orleans. The Forklift Operator is responsible for operating a forklift or other powered material handling equipment to move and stack steel and zinc. This position requires that you have verifiable experience moving heavy metals with a forklift. Job Responsibilities: • Drives propane/electric /diesel forklift to push, pull, lift, stack, or tier products and materials such as steel, iron, and zinc., • Operates all equipment in a safe and efficient manner following prescribed work methods and OSHA standards., • Pull orders from storage areas and compare them with order forms/specification sheet, • Check cargo to inspect condition, quantity, and accuracy of material according to instructions, • Choose appropriate packing materials/equipment and pack cargo in accordance with appropriate procedures, • Must ensure that supplies are being used efficiently and not wasted, • Ensure that each van/container is sealed and verified with appropriate information, • Load/Unload cargo to/from trucks/containers using proper equipment, • Receive product deliveries, inspect and ensure proper storage, • Arrange items in an organized manner to avoid damage or premature wear and tear, • Create or assist with inventory count as needed, • Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of equipment and tools used in the delivery or loading processes, • Must double-check that all security requirements are followed, • TWIC Card, • Previous experience stacking cargo on pallets or into bundles., • Must be able to read, speak and comprehend fluent English, count accurately., • Capable of sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods., • Must be able to twist, stoop, squat, reach above shoulder level and crouch on a frequent basis., • Must be able to use proper lifting techniques to lift 50 pounds., • Must have good communication skills., • Demonstrated ability to follow directions with emphasis on safety is extremely important.
