This is a rare chance to take full ownership of employment law within a local authority. Peterborough City Council is hiring its first dedicated Employment Lawyer, a brand-new role where you’ll lead from day one and influence people policy across the organisation. What You’ll Be Doing • Advising on the full range of employment law issues, • Advise on complex tribunal cases, • Representing the Council in Employment Tribunals, • Working closely with HR to shape policy and reduce legal risk, • Drafting contracts, policies, settlement agreements, and guiding on investigations, • Advising on TUPE, restructures, and organisational change, • Leading on legal responses to employment-related complaints and procedures Why This Role is Different • Greenfield Opportunity – Build the employment law function from the ground up, • Strategic Influence – Work in true partnership with HR and senior leaders, • Visible Impact – Directly shape the Council’s people practices and policies, • Flexibility – Just 2 days a week in-office, with modern hybrid working setup, • Supportive Culture – Join a collaborative, forward-thinking legal team What We’re Looking For • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or CILEx Fellow, • Strong employment law experience, including tribunal representation, • Confidence advising senior stakeholders and presenting legal advice clearly, • A strategic, pragmatic mindset with a collaborative working style, • Interest in shaping internal policy and being a trusted go-to advisor Want to know more?
