Job overview The Trust is seeking to appoint one substantive 0.8 WTE (8 PA) Consultant Gastroenterologist. This appointment will join the existing 16 Gastroenterologists. The post holder will be expected to work across the Trust’s 3 sites: Andover War Memorial Hospital, Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, and the Royal Hampshire County Hospital. The current consultants provide sub-specialty interests in upper and lower therapeutic endoscopy, inflammatory bowel disease, hepatology, nutrition, pancreatobiliary, and motility/functional disease. Existing services include bowel cancer screening, ERCP and SpyGlass, endoscopic ultrasound, advanced GI physiology, and capsule endoscopy. The post holder will be involved with in-patient gastroenterology and GIM and participate in approximately 1:9 acute GI bleed on-call alongside a 7-day inpatient service in Basingstoke, reviewing new admissions that require Gastroenterology input over the weekend. Main duties of the job Location The Consultant Gastroenterologist will be responsible for service delivery across the whole Trust, therefore cross site working over 3 sites is required. The service provides inpatient Gastroenterology in Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital and the Royal Hampshire County Hospital. There are fully equipped and JAG accredited Endoscopy suites at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Andover War Memorial Hospital and North Hampshire Hospital with bowel cancer screening, ERCP, EUS and a range of interventional procedures. Outpatient clinics are undertaken in all of the Trust’s 3 sites in addition to at Alton Community Hospital. There is full secretarial support with an administration team consisting of a Speciality Co-ordinator (Gastroenterology) and support staff based in both Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital and the Royal Hampshire County Hospital sites. Each Consultant has dedicated office space and supporting IT. Working for our organisation Management The Trust has three Clinical Divisions, each managed by a Medical Director (Senior Clinician). This role is supported by a full time Operational Service Manager and a full time management accountant. The approach, in line with Department of Health guidance, devolves as much day to day operational management to the Divisional Management Boards as possible. When appropriate, individual consultants are encouraged and indeed expected to liaise closely with their Divisional Director and clinical colleagues to resolve operational issues. Each Divisional Director is a member of the Trust Executive Board, chaired by the Chief Executive.
