    Location: Hayes / UB8 area Pay: £13.50 per hour Immediate start We are looking for an experienced and reliable male support worker to support a 16-year-old boy with learning disabilities. He is non-verbal and requires patient, attentive support to remain safe at home and while accessing the community. The successful applicant must understand how to support children or young people with learning disabilities, communication difficulties and limited awareness of danger. Working hours The role is for approximately 20 hours per week, usually worked in five-hour blocks. Example schedule: • Monday: 12:00pm–5:00pm, • Tuesday: 12:00pm–5:00pm, • Wednesday: 12:00pm–3:00pm, • Thursday: 12:00pm–5:00pm Some flexibility may be required depending on the young person’s needs. Main responsibilities • Supporting the young person to remain safe at home, • Supporting him to access activities in the community, • Providing reassurance, structure and close supervision, • Supporting positive engagement and meaningful activities, • Following his care plan and agreed safety procedures, • Working alongside another care worker during community outings, • Communicating appropriately with his family and care team Requirements • Previous experience supporting children or young people with learning disabilities, • Experience supporting non-verbal individuals, • Good understanding of safeguarding and managing risks, • Patient, calm, reliable and able to follow instructions, • Enhanced DBS registered with the online Update Service, • Right to work in the UK, • Able to start immediately Due to the specific care and support needs of the young person, applications are invited from male care workers only. The role is accountable for safeguarding, staff development, operational excellence, and achieving positive outcomes for children. Key Responsibilities 1. Leadership & Operational Management • Provide strong, child‑centred leadership that promotes safety, stability, and emotional wellbeing., • Ensure the home operates in full compliance with Children’s Homes Regulations and Quality Standards., • Maintain and regularly review the Statement of Purpose., • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and operational systems., • Ensure the home is adequately staffed at all times and manage the rota effectively., • Oversee health & safety, fire safety, and environmental risk management. 2. Quality Assurance & Compliance • Maintain high standards of recording, auditing, and regulatory compliance., • Prepare the home for Ofsted inspections and respond to regulatory feedback., • Complete Regulation 45 reports and contribute to continuous improvement., • Ensure all decisions are clearly recorded on children’s files. 6. Financial & Resource Management • Manage budgets, staffing costs, and resources effectively., • Ensure the home operates sustainably and within financial parameters., • Oversee procurement, maintenance, and external contracts. 7. On‑Call & Availability • Participate in the on‑call rota to support staff and respond to emergencies., • Provide flexible working hours when required to meet the needs of the home. Person Specification Essential • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a senior role within children’s residential care., • Strong understanding of trauma, attachment, and EBD behaviours., • Excellent safeguarding knowledge and decision‑making skills., • Ability to lead, motivate, and develop a staff team., • Strong communication, organisational, and problem‑solving skills., • Ability to work flexibly, including on‑call duties., • Commitment to child‑centred, therapeutic practice.
