Description The Road Freight Planner will be responsible for coordinating and optimising European road freight movements, ensuring the efficient utilisation of transport resources while maintaining excellent customer service standards. Key responsibilities include: Planning and coordinating European collections and deliveries in line with customer requirements. Managing and allocating transport movements through a network of owner drivers and subcontractors. Maximising vehicle utilisation and reducing empty running. Monitoring transport activity and proactively resolving operational issues. Building strong relationships with drivers, subcontractors and customers. Working closely with the wider planning team to deliver operational efficiencies. Ensuring transport activities are delivered in a cost-effective and profitable manner. Supporting margin improvement and identifying opportunities to develop freight forwarding revenue. Maintaining accurate transport, pricing and customer information within internal systems. Assisting with KPI reporting and operational performance monitoring. Managing invoice queries and ensuring accurate system updates where required.Profile The successful candidate is likely to have: Experience within road freight transport operations or transport planning. Knowledge of UK and European road freight networks. Strong organisational and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities. The ability to thrive in a fast-paced transport environment. Commercial awareness with an understanding of cost control and profitability. Experience working with owner drivers and subcontractors.Desirable experience includes: Previous planning experience within European road freight operations. Knowledge of key European markets including France, Belgium, Netherlands and Italy. Experience within freight forwarding environments. We are currently recruiting for a Driver’s Mate to join a busy recycling and waste management company based in Purfleet. This is a hands-on role supporting drivers on daily commercial waste and recycling collections. You’ll be working as part of a two-person team, helping with collections and deliveries across client sites. The Role Your duties will include: • Supporting the driver with daily waste and recycling collections, • Collecting and emptying commercial bins from customer sites, • Delivering and allocating new bins to client locations, • Handling different types of waste, including plastic, cardboard, food waste and general rubbish, • Helping the driver navigate collection routes and customer sites, • Keeping the vehicle and work area clean and tidy, • Providing a professional and helpful service to customers, • Following all company health & safety procedures We’re looking for someone who is: • Reliable and punctual, • Comfortable working very early morning starts, • Physically fit and happy with a hands-on role, • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions, • Not bothered by strong smells or handling waste This is a physical job working with commercial waste, so candidates must be comfortable with the nature of the work. Waste can include food waste and other materials, and the job can be dirty and smelly at times. The early starts are also an essential part of the role, with shifts beginning between 1am and 4am Monday to Friday.
