We have: • Closed our seed round and are entering the next stage of growth, • Expanding the platform, engineering team and customer footprint, • Preparing for Series A with a focus on platform maturity and deeper integrations We're hiring a Senior Lead Software Engineer as a foundational member of our engineering team, someone who will help us build robust, scalable systems and shape how we grow the team around them. Role Overview This is a key early hire. You'll work across the full stack with a strong emphasis on backend services and infrastructure, helping us build systems that scale as we grow. You'll work closely with the Director of Engineering to establish patterns, improve reliability, and lay the groundwork for a larger engineering team. You will: • Design and build backend services that ingest, process and serve intelligence at scale, • Own and evolve our AWS infrastructure, ensuring it's secure, cost-effective and production-ready, • Work across the stack when needed, comfortable contributing to frontend, APIs and data layers, • Help define engineering practices, tooling and processes as the team grows, • Be a key voice in technical decisions and architectural direction, • Mentor and support engineers as we expand the team This role suits someone who wants to build things properly, cares about the foundations, and is excited by the opportunity to shape both the platform and the team. Key Responsibilities Backend Development • Design and build performant, maintainable backend services in TypeScript/Node.js and Python, • Develop APIs using Fastify and integrate with internal and external data sources, • Build data pipelines and processing workflows that handle high-volume intelligence feeds, • Implement robust error handling, logging, monitoring and alerting, • Write clean, well-tested code with clear documentation Infrastructure & Cloud Engineering • Own and manage AWS infrastructure (ECS, Lambda, RDS, S3, CloudFront, SQS, EventBridge, etc.), • Design for scale, reliability and cost efficiency from the outset, • Implement infrastructure-as-code using Terraform, • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for consistent, reliable deployments, • Establish security best practices across infrastructure and application layers, • Monitor, troubleshoot and optimise production systems Architecture & Technical Leadership • Contribute to architectural decisions that support long-term scalability, • Identify technical debt and propose pragmatic approaches to address it, • Evaluate and introduce tools and technologies where they add genuine value, • Document systems, decisions and patterns to support team growth, • Participate in incident response and post-mortems, driving continuous improvement Team Growth & Collaboration • Work closely with the Director of Engineering on priorities, planning and team development, • Help interview, onboard and mentor new engineers as we scale, • Communicate clearly and proactively, flag risks early, share context generously, • Collaborate with Product and other stakeholders to refine requirements and trade-offs, • Foster a culture of learning, quality and mutual support Technical Environment Backend: • Node.js, TypeScript, Fastify, • Python for data processing and automation, • Postgres, Supabase, Redis, • Event-driven microservices architecture, • n8n for workflow automation, • LLM-powered enrichment pipelines Infrastructure: • AWS (ECS, Lambda, RDS, S3, CloudFront, SQS, EventBridge, IAM, VPC), • Terraform for infrastructure-as-code, • GitHub Actions for CI/CD, • Monitoring and observability tooling Frontend (for fullstack context): • React, TypeScript, Vite, Next.js Bonus familiarity: • Graph databases and GraphML for relationship modelling, • .NET for legacy integration or specific tooling, • Cyber Security, • SOC2 / CE+ / Regulatory experience What Success Looks Like (First 12 Months) • Core backend services and infrastructure are more scalable, reliable and observable, • Clear architectural patterns established that the team can build upon, • Meaningful contribution to at least one significant platform capability, • Infrastructure costs are understood, monitored and optimised, • Strong working relationships across engineering, product and leadership, • Actively contributed to hiring and onboarding new team members, • Recognised as a trusted technical voice in decisions and planning Ideal Experience • 5+ years of backend development experience, with strong TypeScript/Node.js and Python skills, • Solid, hands-on AWS experience—you've built and operated production infrastructure, not just used managed services, • Experience designing systems for scale, even if you haven't yet operated at massive scale, • Comfortable across the stack—backend-focused but can contribute meaningfully to frontend when needed, • Worked in startup or scale-up environments where you've had to build, ship and iterate quickly, • Experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform preferred), • Clear, confident communicator who can explain technical concepts to varied audiences Bonus: • Experience with graph databases or GraphML for modelling complex relationships, • .NET experience for specific integrations, • Familiarity with cyber security, threat intelligence or risk platforms, • Experience building data pipelines or working with high-volume data ingestion, • Previous involvement in growing or mentoring engineering teams What We're Looking For Beyond technical skills, we're looking for someone who: • Loves building: Energised by creating products that solve real problems, • Builds for scale: Thinks about what happens when it grows, not just when it works, • Grows people: Wants to help others develop—shares knowledge, gives feedback, lifts the team, • Stays curious: Asks questions, digs deeper, never assumes they know everything, • Keeps learning: Actively develops their skills and stays engaged with the craft, • Stays humble: Ego-free, open to challenge, happy to be wrong if it leads to better outcomes, • Communicates clearly: Can articulate ideas, trade-offs and concerns directly and constructively This is an early, foundational role. We need someone who cares about getting it right and wants to help us build something that lasts. Why Join Cyb3r Operations This isn't a 9-5. We're building something meaningful, and we're looking for people who want to be part of that. • Foundational impact: Join as a key early hire and shape how we build—both the platform and the team, • Real ownership: Your decisions matter, your code ships, your influence is tangible, • Talented team: Work alongside experienced engineers, intelligence analysts and security professionals who care about their craft, • Shared success: We celebrate wins together and recognise the people who make them happen, • Growth opportunity: Help us scale from seed to Series A and beyond, your career grows with us, • Cyber security domain: Work on problems that matter, in a space that's only becoming more critical, • Competitive package: Salary, matched pension contribution, unlimited leave and flexibility that reflects your experience and contribution If you want to build robust systems, help grow a strong team, and be part of something from the early days, we'd love to hear from you.
