Drive the Future of Formula 1 with GM PPU! Were seeking an innovative ES Mechanical Engineer to join our advanced battery development team in Concord, NC. In this challenging role, youll lead the mechanical design, development, and optimization of next-generation Energy Store (ES) systems for Formula 1 racing, focusing on enhancing power density, performance, and safety under the extreme conditions of motorsport. Key Responsibilities: • Design and develop mechanical components and systems for the Energy Store (ES) used in F1 power units., • Conduct engineering design and qualification efforts for ES systems, ensuring they meet the rigorous demands of F1 racing., • Develop and implement innovative solutions for ES packaging, weight reduction, and integration within the F1 power unit., • Collaborate with electrical, chemical, and thermal engineers to optimize the mechanical aspects of battery cell arrangements and connections., • Conduct finite element analysis (FEA) simulations to validate ES designs., • Work with suppliers and internal teams to ensure new ES designs are developed on time and meet performance targets., • Perform investigations, prepare status reports on issues, and make recommendations as required., • Conduct hands-on ES assembly, testing, and diagnostics under simulated race conditions., • Analyze performance results and design experiments for ES mechanical systems optimized for racing., • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Advanced degree preferred., • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in high-performance mechanical systems design, preferably in motorsport or aerospace industries., • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials science, and manufacturing processes., • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA) and FEA simulation tools., • Experience with structural analysis of composite materials., • Knowledge of battery technologies and energy storage systems., • Familiarity with F1 technical regulations and FIA guidelines for ES systems., • Experience with additive manufacturing techniques and their application in high-performance components., • In-depth knowledge of composite materials, including design, manufacturing, and testing of composite structures for motorsport applications., • Strong collaborative attitude with excellent teamwork abilities., • Self-motivated with a passion for innovation in high-performance energy storage systems., • Commitment to continuous learning and staying updated with the latest advancements in ES technology for racing applications., • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
