About the Company Bedford Pumps is a leading UK manufacturer of high-capacity, engineered pumping solutions for the water, wastewater, flood defence and land drainage sectors. We design, build and test bespoke pumps in-house, delivering reliable, high-performance solutions for critical infrastructure projects across the UK and internationally. About the Role Working under supervision of shopfloor/stores personnel but reporting to the Production Supervisor, the Workshop Support Operative will be part of a small team responsible for supporting all production activities. You will also support ongoing initiatives to increase output, drive continuous improvement, and help maintain a clean, safe and hygienic working environment. Responsibilities • Assist in the pressure testing of various pump components in line with production schedule/build requirements, • Assist in the rigging and de-rigging of test arrangements, including insertion and removal of pumps, • Clean down, touch up/paint, and prepare pumps for dispatch following testing, • Support general operational activities within the workshop, • Use overhead cranes and forklift trucks to move large and heavy items around the workshop, • Load and unload vehicles as required, • Carry out general housekeeping and low-level maintenance of facilities, • Collect and deliver smaller parts, • Deliver parts from stores to workshop, • Ensure all tasks are carried out in line with company HSQE policies and procedures, • Carry out other tasks as reasonably requested by the company Qualifications • Experience working in a similar mechanical assembly environment, • Full driving licence, • Overhead crane qualification (training will be provided if required), • Forklift licence (training will be provided if required) Required Skills • Able to work with minimal supervision, • Proactive and willing to learn, • Strong team player, • Commitment to health, safety, quality and environmental standards, • Good work ethic, • Honest, reliable, and trustworthy, • Strong attention to detail, • Good verbal communication skills, • Interest in continuous improvement activities
