About the Company Bedford Pumps is a leading UK manufacturer of high-capacity, engineered pumping solutions for the water, wastewater, flood defence and land drainage sectors. About the Role Working under supervision of shopfloor/stores personnel but reporting to the Production Supervisor, the Workshop Support Operative will be part of a small team responsible for supporting all production activities. You will also support ongoing initiatives to increase output, drive continuous improvement, and help maintain a clean, safe and hygienic working environment. Responsibilities • Assist in the pressure testing of various pump components in line with production schedule/build requirements, • Assist in the rigging and de-rigging of test arrangements, including insertion and removal of pumps, • Clean down, touch up/paint, and prepare pumps for dispatch following testing, • Support general operational activities within the workshop, • Use overhead cranes and forklift trucks to move large and heavy items around the workshop, • Load and unload vehicles as required, • Carry out general housekeeping and low-level maintenance of facilities, • Collect and deliver smaller parts, • Deliver parts from stores to workshop, • Ensure all tasks are carried out in line with company HSQE policies and procedures, • Carry out other tasks as reasonably requested by the company Qualifications • Experience working in a similar mechanical assembly environment, • Full driving licence, • Overhead crane qualification (training will be provided if required), • Forklift licence (training will be provided if required) Required Skills • Able to work with minimal supervision, • Proactive and willing to learn, • Strong team player, • Commitment to health, safety, quality and environmental standards, • Good work ethic, • Honest, reliable, and trustworthy, • Strong attention to detail, • Good verbal communication skills, • Interest in continuous improvement activities

Job Objectives Provide vital support to daily company operations, ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures, and team goals. Assist with the efficient running of the Operations and Yard departments. Possession of a valid forklift licence is essential. Operational Duties (including, but not limited to): Attend the daily Toolbox Talk at 7:30 am promptly. Maintain a clean, safe yard environment by minimising risks and promptly reporting any concerns to the Operations Management Team, both verbally and through the Near Miss and Damages procedures. Carry out regular servicing, inspection, and maintenance of all equipment. Undertake any tasks within the scope of the role as directed by line management. Prepare equipment for jobs as requested by the Operations Management Team. Pick equipment accurately according to load lists. Load and unload equipment from various vehicles, including counterbalance forklifts and telehandlers. Secure loads to trailers and kit to stillages using ratchet straps safely. Ensure trailers are strapped in accordance with VOSA regulations. Collaborate with operations personnel to monitor and maintain stock levels. Ensure stock is serviced and ready for despatch. Participate actively in annual stock audits and asset identification. Carry out manual handling of stock, scaffolding, and equipment safely and correctly. Administrative Duties (including, but not limited to): Follow yard procedures for equipment labelling accurately. Complete all documentation related to near misses, accident reporting, and damages with precision. Ensure load lists are fully and accurately completed. Inform Line Management promptly of any items not returned from site. Report stock shortages and required consumables to Line Management without delay. Health & Safety (including, but not limited to): Actively promote and uphold Health and Safety standards within the workplace. Maintain awareness of all Health & Safety documentation relevant to your role, including the Health & Safety Policy.
