Behaviour Mentor – SEMH & SEND\n Location: Brighton, East Sussex \n Salary: £21,731–£24,195.50 per annum + up to £2,500 annual performance bonus \n Job Type: Full-time | Permanent | Term-Time Only \n Working Hours: Monday–Friday | 8:30am–3:30pm \n Training Start Date: 24 August 2026 \n Learner Start Date: September 2026 \n New Chapter Tuition is proud to be working exclusively with a specialist vocational education provision to recruit a Behaviour Mentor to join their growing team in Brighton. \n This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Behaviour Mentor, Learning Mentor, Teaching Assistant, Youth Worker, Sports Coach or education professional who is passionate about supporting young people with additional needs and barriers to education. \n You will support learners across KS3–KS5 with SEMH needs, ADHD, SEND, emotional and behavioural needs, and experiences of trauma. Through positive relationships, practical learning and consistent support, you will help learners rebuild confidence, improve engagement and develop the skills needed to achieve positive outcomes. The Role\n As a Behaviour Mentor, you will: \n\n • Provide tailored support on a 1:1 basis and within small groups of up to eight learners.\n, • Build positive, trusting and professional relationships with young people.\n, • Support learners with SEMH, ADHD, SEND and additional needs.\n, • Promote positive behaviour, engagement and emotional regulation.\n, • Use effective de-escalation and positive behaviour support strategies.\n, • Support the delivery of engaging vocational and practical learning activities.\n, • Create a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment.\n, • Promote confidence, resilience, independence and positive decision-making.\n, • Support learners to overcome barriers to education and prepare for positive future pathways.\n, • Work collaboratively with colleagues and other professionals to support learner progress.\nAbout You\n This role may particularly suit candidates with experience as a: \n\n • Behaviour Mentor\n, • Learning Mentor\n, • Teaching Assistant or SEN Teaching Assistant\n, • Learning Support Assistant\n, • Youth Worker\n, • Pastoral Support Worker\n, • Sports Coach\n, • Outreach Worker\n, • Support Worker\n, • Vocational Instructor\n, • Cadet Instructor or Armed Forces Instructor\n\n You will ideally have: \n\n • Experience working with children or young people.\n, • Experience supporting learners with SEMH, ADHD, SEND, emotional or behavioural needs.\n, • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.\n, • An understanding of positive behaviour support and effective de-escalation strategies.\n, • The ability to remain calm, consistent and resilient when supporting challenging behaviour.\n, • A patient, trauma-informed and relationship-led approach.\n, • A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers and succeed.\n\n Previous experience supporting vocational or practical learning would be advantageous but is not essential. Candidates with transferable experience from youth work, sports coaching, mentoring, support work, mechanics, engineering, the Armed Forces or other practical backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
