Pastoral Support & SEN Teaching Assistant – Multi-Site Provision (Gloucester)\n\nGL1 | GL2 | GL19 | Full-Time | Term-Time Only | Long-Term & Permanent Opportunities\n\nWe are recruiting Pastoral Support & SEN Teaching Assistants to join a specialist, multi-site SEMH provision across Gloucester (GL1, GL2 and GL19).\n\nThese are dedicated classroom-based TA roles within well-established provisions. You will be placed within one of three settings, supporting pupils across primary, secondary or a girls-only school, depending on your experience and strengths.\n\nAbout the Provision:\n\nYou will be joining a specialist, independent school supporting pupils with:\n\nSocial, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH)\nAutism (ASC), ADHD, OCD and PDA profiles\nAnxiety, emotional regulation needs and attachment difficulties\nCommunication and sensory processing differences\nAcross three sites in Gloucester, the school delivers small class sizes, high staff ratios and a therapeutic, child-centred approach, focused on re-engaging pupils who may have previously struggled in mainstream education.\n\nEach site offers a slightly different focus:\n\nGL19 (Secondary Provision) – supporting older pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs\nGL1 (Primary & Girls Secondary) – a nurturing setting with mixed age support\nGL2 (Girls-Only Secondary Provision) – focused pastoral and therapeutic support environment\n\nAbout the Role:\n\nAs a Teaching Assistant / Pastoral Support Practitioner, you will:\n\nProvide consistent 1:1 and small-group support in a classroom setting\nSupport pupils with emotional regulation, behaviour and engagement\nBuild strong, trusting relationships with students who require stability and routine\nAssist with learning activities, structured interventions and life skills development\nWork closely with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams\nHelp maintain a calm, structured and supportive environment\nSupport pupils who may experience anxiety, distress or behavioural challenges\nContribute to a therapeutic and holistic approach to education\nThis is a hands-on, impactful role where strong relationships and consistency are key.\n\nWho We’re Looking For:\n\nWe are particularly interested in candidates who have:\n\nExperience working as a Teaching Assistant (TA) or Learning Support Assistant\nBackground in SEN, SEMH, pastoral support or behaviour mentoring\nExperience in care, residential settings, youth work or support roles\nConfidence supporting students with complex needs and emotional challenges\nWe also welcome strong recent graduates (e.g. Psychology, Education, Criminology) who have hands-on experience supporting young people.\n\nQualifications & Development:\n\nLevel 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualifications are highly desirable\nHowever, the school is willing to support and fund NVQ/TA qualifications for the right candidate\nThis makes it an excellent opportunity for experienced candidates looking to formalise their qualifications and progress\n\nEssential Skills & Qualities\n\nCalm, consistent and emotionally intelligent approach\nStrong communication and relationship-building skills\nAbility to manage behaviour positively and professionally\nResilience and confidence in challenging situations\nGenuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people\nEnhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)\n\nWhat You Will Receive\n\nCompetitive weekly pay via PAYE (no umbrella deductions)\nPlacement within a stable, long-term school setting\nOpportunity to work in a specialist, well-supported provision\nFunded training and NVQ/TA qualification support\nAccess to CPD including SEN, behaviour and safeguarding\nOngoing support from a dedicated consultant\nOpportunities for permanent contracts across the sites\n\nWhy This Role Stands Out\n\nThis is not a standard TA role.\n\nYou will be working in a highly supportive, specialist environment with:\n\nSmall class sizes and strong staff collaboration\nA therapeutic, child-centred approach\nOpportunities to work across different provisions and age groups\nClear progression pathways within SEN and pastoral education\nYour role will directly contribute to re-engaging students and improving long-term outcomes.\n\nApply Now – SEN Teaching Assistant / Pastoral Support (Gloucester Sites)\n\nIf you have relevant experience and are looking for a meaningful, long-term role across well-supported Gloucester provisions, we would love to hear from you.\n\nAll applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role.
