Maintenance Operative – Student Accommodation Location - Cardiff On site 5 days per week Salary - £30,000 A leading provider of modern student living is looking for a proactive Maintenance Operative to join their team. The Role As a Maintenance Operative, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the building is kept in excellent condition and all maintenance tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. You’ll handle a mix of planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance, working both independently and as part of a supportive on-site team. Key Responsibilities • Carry out general maintenance tasks including basic plumbing, joinery, decorating, and electrical work, • Respond to reactive maintenance requests within agreed SLAs, • Conduct routine inspections and report defects or safety concerns, • Support planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules, • Maintain clean, safe plant rooms, workshops, and storage areas, • Ensure safe use and correct storage of tools and equipment, • Liaise with external contractors and engineers when required, • Assist with moves, furniture assembly, and room set-ups, • Provide support during site emergencies, including occasional out-of-hours responses, • Work in line with all health and safety regulations About You Essential: • Previous experience in maintenance, facilities, or building services, • Strong understanding of general building maintenance (plumbing, painting, carpentry, etc.), • Knowledge of health and safety standards, • Ability to prioritise workload and work both independently and in a team, • Excellent communication and a customer-focused approach Desirable: • Trade qualifications (City & Guilds, NVQ or similar), • Experience in student accommodation, residential, or commercial settings, • Basic IT skills for maintenance systems or ticketing platforms Additional Information • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required, • Uniform and tools provided where needed Benefits • 25 days annual leave (rising to 28 after 5 years’ service), • Discretionary bonus scheme, • Company-paid sick leave
