Role purpose: You will work as part of our expert Business Development Team with a wide range of national partners including technology firms, biotechs, leading universities and the global industry. You will have a chance to contribute to the success of the sector by identifying and matching external partners to new R&D opportunities arising with the Catapult and to seek funding opportunities for resulting projects. The business development managers role is to oversee a portfolio customers/clients developing new business from existing clients and actively seeking new sales opportunities, in line with forecast, key account metrics, quarterly sales results and annual forecasts. The successful candidate will be based focused on developing business for MDC within North America. Based in the UK, we are looking for someone with experience of selling into the North America market with an existing network of drug discovery and development contacts. The role is home based with frequent national and occasional international travel. Main duties and responsibilities: • Manage accounts of all sizes by representing MDC externally with clients and internally by working with all other functions, • Prepare sales reports on account status and individual and capability targets, • Achieve sales targets by successfully implementing sales and marketing strategies and maximising account management relationships, • Develop a thorough understanding of the customer’s position in the market, their product, points of difference and competitive landscape, • Manage customer input and feedback for all projects with detailed direction and timelines, • Establish and build strong working relationships with business leaders at all levels, • Manage day-to-day customer communication and ongoing relationships as it relates to current, new and upcoming projects, • As necessary, visit customers, attend trade shows, conferences and other industry events to capitalize on networking and relationship-building opportunities, • Proactively remain connected to customers and the ever-changing market to access new search opportunities and ensure all viable clients are engaged on a regular and effective basis Essential qualifications, experience and knowledge: • Significant experience in Business Development or Account Management, • Undergraduate degree or equivalent, • Proven ability to consistently and positively contribute in a fast-paced environment, • Build effective relationships and influence credibly at all levels, • Experience in translation-focused projects including product development activities from concept to commercialisation of biopharmaceutical, healthcare or similar products., • Ability to work independently and manage personal and team member time, keeping deliverables and deadlines as a priority, • Creative thinking and problem-solving aptitude, • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills, • Experience in delivering client focussed solutions based on customer needs, • Proven industry experience in the life sciences, biotechnology or pharmaceutical sector., • Experience in working in cross-functional teams and leading without formal authority., • Strong technical, scientific, and operational experience in industry and/or academia., • Knowledge of relevant market analyses & business planning, private finance, and IP, • Knowledge and working experience of CRM Software e.g. Hubspot, MS office suite Desirable qualifications, experience and knowledge: • Previous experience of report/document production (e.g. quarterly reports, final reports, audits) for Innovate UK funded research projects, • Exposure to the management of national and international scientific research projects, including collaborative projects with biopharmaceutical/biotech companies, • Knowledge of private finance and IP Personal characteristics: • Detail oriented: organised, thorough and productive, • Planning oriented: coming prepared to meetings with a plan and timeline, • Curious: asks lots of questions, wanting to understand the customers science, their organisation and needs, diligent in researching and resourceful, • Highly productive Closing date: 4th January 2026
