Teacher of History Location: Yorkshire and the Humber, North Yorkshire, Middlesbrough Job Type: Temporary, Full-Time Industry: Education and Training Salary: £180 - £250 per day Job Description This role involves delivering high-quality teaching and learning in History to pupils across various key stages. The Teacher of History plans, prepares and delivers engaging lessons that meet the curriculum requirements and promote a deep understanding of historical events, concepts and skills. The role requires effective classroom management, assessment of pupil progress and the ability to adapt teaching strategies to support diverse learning needs. Key Duties and Responsibilities • Plan and deliver stimulating and well-structured History lessons in line with the national curriculum and school policies., • Assess, record and report on the progress and attainment of pupils, providing constructive feedback to support their development., • Create and maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages pupil engagement and participation., • Develop and use a variety of teaching resources and approaches to cater for different learning styles and abilities., • Manage classroom behaviour effectively, promoting respect and discipline in accordance with school guidelines., • Monitor pupil progress and identify those requiring additional support, liaising with relevant staff to provide appropriate interventions., • Contribute to the development of departmental schemes of work and participate in departmental meetings and activities., • Maintain professional knowledge of developments in History education and pedagogical techniques through continuous professional development., • Ensure compliance with safeguarding policies and promote the welfare of pupils at all times., • Undertake administrative tasks associated with the role, including preparation of reports and attendance at parent consultations as required.Required Qualifications, • Qualified Teacher Status or equivalent recognised teaching qualification., • Good standard of general education, ideally with a degree in History or a closely related subject.Education, • Degree in History or a related discipline from a recognised university or higher education institution., • Evidence of continuing professional development relevant to teaching and History curriculum.Experience, • Previous teaching experience in History at secondary school level is highly desirable., • Experience of planning and delivering lessons to mixed ability groups., • Familiarity with assessment methods and reporting pupil progress.Knowledge and Skills, • Strong subject knowledge in History, including key historical periods, themes and concepts., • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to pupils, adapting language and approach as necessary., • Excellent classroom management and organisational skills., • Competence in using information and communication technology to enhance learning., • Understanding of child safeguarding and welfare requirements., • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and contribute positively to the school community.Preferred Qualifications, • Postgraduate qualification in Education or History., • Experience of teaching History in more than one school setting., • Training or experience in supporting pupils with special educational needs or English as an additional language.Working Conditions, • Full-time working hours, typically during school term times with occasional attendance at meetings or events outside normal hours., • Temporary contract with potential for extension based on school requirements and performance., • Work takes place primarily in a classroom environment within the school premises., • Occasional requirement for standing for extended periods and moving resources or equipment as part of lesson preparation.
