Job Title: Field Service Engineer Industry: Warehouse Automation Location: Hybrid Salary: Up to £50k basic (with overtime you can earn between £60 - 65k) + company van THE ROLE The Field Service Engineer will provide on-site service, maintenance, and repair of equipment at customer locations, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum performance. This role requires technical expertise, effective problem-solving skills, and a customer-focused approach to deliver exceptional service and uphold company standards. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Service, Maintenance & Project Support • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on a wide range of equipment to ensure reliable operation., • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair equipment faults on-site in a timely manner., • Conduct root cause analysis and implement effective solutions to minimize future issues., • Install and commission new equipment, ensuring full functionality and compliance with customer requirements., • To carry out installation and commissioning support to projects within the business. Customer Support • Provide exceptional customer service by addressing customer concerns and delivering clear updates on repair or maintenance progress., • Train and support customers on equipment usage, safety, and basic troubleshooting., • Act as a company ambassador, maintaining professionalism and building strong relationships with customers., • Support customer sites when resident engineers are on annual leave. Documentation and Reporting • Accurately record service activities, including fault diagnoses, repairs, and parts used., • Complete detailed service reports and submit them promptly to the appropriate systems or managers., • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of spare parts and tools required for field operations. Compliance and Safety • Adhere to all company and customer health and safety regulations, including risk assessments and method statements., • Ensure equipment is left in a safe and operational condition after service., • Maintain tools and test equipment in good working order and calibrated where necessary. Continuous Improvement • Identify recurring issues and propose improvements to processes, systems, or equipment., • Stay updated with the latest product developments, technologies, and industry trends through training and self-learning. WORK ENVIRONMENT & ROLE REQUIREMENTS Skills and Competencies: • Strong technical problem-solving skills with a hands-on approach., • Excellent communication and customer service skills., • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment., • Attention to detail and ability to complete tasks to a high standard., • Good organizational skills to maintain accurate records and manage workload. Additional Requirements: • Full UK driving licence (essential for travel between customer sites)., • Willingness to travel extensively and occasionally stay overnight., • Availability to participate in an on-call rota, including weekends and evenings if required., • Physical ability to handle tools and equipment and work in varied environments. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE • Proven experience in a field service or maintenance role, ideally within automation, • Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, schematics, and manuals., • Experience in diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, or automated systems., • Formal engineering qualification (e.g., HNC, HND, NVQ Level 3, or equivalent)., • Familiarity with field service management software and tools. SALARY PACKAGE • We’re looking to offer a competitive salary of up to £50,000 per annum, with the opportunity to significantly increase your earnings through regular overtime – many of our team members take home between £60,000 and £65,000, a van is provided for business use and 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays).
