SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Responsible for student health assessments and delivery of first aid in accordance with established policy and procedures., 6. Compiles monthly and annual records, reports, and statistical information as required by supervisor., 7. Utilizes Health Services provided to a student as a means of direct and indirect teaching to students in regards to first aide, health concerns, and health awareness. Every time a student is seen should be viewed as an opportunity to educate., 8. Administers medication in compliance with state and board policies., 9. Performs special procedures to students as ordered by physician in accordance with standard medical practice., 10. Maintains a daily log of student visits to health office and makes appropriate documentation on individual health card., 11. Participates in health screening procedures: i.e. hearing and vision, 12. Responsible to ensure accurate computerized data entry in regards to immunization dates, health examination, and medical condition codes., 13. Assists the certified School Nurse to maintain and use cumulative health records for all students., 14. Assists the Certified School Nurse to maintain lines of communication with teachers and other school personnel in order that cooperative action will meet the needs of pupils., 15. Maintains confidentiality regarding all school relate issues., 16. Cooperate with local colleges and universities to provide internships and community health experiences for interested students., 17. Observes the school environment for safety hazards and sanitary conditions and reports to responsible persons., 18. Ensure completion of accident reports for students/staff, in compliance with board policy, and submit monthly reports for statistical purposes., 19. Assess and makes appropriate suspected child abuse/neglect referrals., 20. Reports to the certified school nurse activities, observation, findings, staff concerns, on a scheduled or an as needed basis., 21. Follows District 205 Health Service Manual in regards to Policies and Procedures., 22. Completes end of the year reports and files them with the state., 23. Attends registration and begins entering health information for the upcoming school year for own assignment as well as all District buildings., 24. Submits data for reimbursement of health services for own assignment as well as all District buildings., 25. Assumes other duties as delegated by Health Services Supervisor, who may make adjustments in the above-outlined scope of responsibilities. QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Must be a professional registered nurse licensed within the State of Illinois, 2. Willingness to obtain Certification through the Illinois Department of Public Health to become trained as Vision and Hearing Screener, 3. Willingness to become CPR Instructor for the American Heart Association., 4. Pediatric nursing experience preferred. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Nurses should demonstrate an excellent knowledge of nursing assessment, communication, and mediation skills. Ability and knowledge to work with local and state community agencies and resources in regard to medical care for children.
