Compensation is based on total years of experience in previous clinical roles. In this role, you'll care for patients in the Inpatient Unit located in Fort Wayne. You will be working 36 hours each week. POSITION TITLE: INPATIENT CERTIFIED NURSE AIDE/QUALIFIED MEDICAL ASSISTANT FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT REPORTS TO: Assistant Director of Nursing POSITION OBJECTIVE: To provide safe personal care and support for the terminally ill in the hospice facility under the direction of the Registered Nurse. Assist nursing staff with medication management when needed. QUALIFICATIONS: • High school diploma or GED required., • Completion of 105 hours CNA Certification program (need copy of Certificate)., • RN nursing students who have completed courses with a grade of “C” or better, who currently possess an active CNA License, will be said to have met the above qualifications., • Must have a current QMA certification to practice in the state of Indiana., • Must hold current CPR certification or obtain within the orientation period., • Must be able to safely perform the essential functions of the job without posing a direct threat to the health and/or safety of self or others in the workplace. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Gives client care per agency policies and procedures, following the written Plan of Care., • Appropriate and safe techniques in personal hygiene and grooming, including bed bath, sponge bath, tub bath, or shower bath. Shampoo: sink, tub, or bed. Nail and skin care. Oral hygiene. Toileting and elimination needs: empty commode and catheter bag, empty, cleanse, and reinforce ostomy bag. Normal range of motion and positioning, ambulating with the use of a gait belt. Changing linens, adequate nutrition, fluid intake, and output., • Assist patients with various rehabilitation activities under the direction of a licensed therapist or RN., • Takes and records temperature, pulse, respirations, and blood pressure when assigned., • Meal preparations., • Assist patients with feeding and feed patients unable to feed themselves., • Observes patient’s condition and reports significant changes in status to the appropriate nurse., • Computer documents are handled according to agency policies and procedures., • Manages care of assigned patients in a timely fashion., • Maintains a clean, safe, and healthy environment in the patient care area., • Assist with oral medication administration under the direction of the skilled nurse while working in the inpatient hospice unit., • As a member of the interdisciplinary team, participate in patient care conferences as assigned to promote holistic care., • CNAs will maintain good personal hygiene and conduct themselves politely and professionally., • CNAs must maintain a therapeutic relationship with patients. This includes confidentiality of personal matters as well as patients’, coworkers’, and the Agency's business., • Maintains respect for the patient's privacy and property., • Attends educational opportunities and in-services following agency guidelines to improve clinical practice., • Must be willing to be cross-trained in other departments within the agency., • Any other duties assigned by the supervisor., • Adheres to all Stillwater Hospice policies., • Adheres to Stillwater Hospice's privacy practices as described in the Notice of Privacy Practices., • Perform light housekeeping chores., • May run errands, on occasion, with supervisor approval. ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL FUNCTIONS: • Must have visual, hearing, and mental ability to initiate and comprehend written and verbal communication., • Must be able to engage in clear, concise verbal/non-verbal communication., • Lifting: Transfer patients into positions where they can perform daily care, personal hygiene, and grooming - Occasional to Frequent., • Carrying: Personal hygiene supplies to and from the bathroom to the patient - Frequent. Linen for short distances - Frequent., • Pushing/pulling: Readjust patient in bed - Frequent., • Standing: While performing patient care - Frequent to Constant., • Sitting: While performing patient care and paperwork. - Occasional, • Climbing: Up and down stairs - Occasional., • Balancing: Needed for normal ambulation, climbing stairs, and reaching - Frequent., • Stooping/kneeling/crouching/reaching: To perform patient care - Frequent., • Handling patient care items, i.e., soap, shampoo, toothbrush, comb, dressing - Frequent., • Fingering: Pen, visit reports - Frequent., • Opening: Bottles and jars - Frequent, • Talking: To communicate with patients and family, and to communicate with supervisors and coworkers - Frequent., • Hearing: To communicate with patient, coworkers, patients’ family, and supervisor - Frequent to Constant., • Seeing: Constant., • Must be able to climb a minimum of three (3) flights of stairs., • Recognizes emergencies and knows emergency procedures according to agency policy., • Must have the ability to remain calm in occasional emergencies. ESSENTIAL HAZARDOUS PHYSICAL EXPOSURES: • Must be willing to travel in inclement weather., • Potential exposure to variable temperatures in the working environment., • Potential exposure to infectious diseases, needle sticks, hazardous waste, etc., • Potential threat of physical violence to self. (Security personnel available upon request.), • Potential exposure to harm from pets visiting patients on the hospice unit. CHEMICAL OR HAZARDOUS PHYSICAL EXPOSURES: • Potential exposure to chemical/cleaning substances within the facility. ESSENTIAL PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIRED: • Standard precautions will be consistently used for patients. The employer provides protective clothing and equipment at no cost to the employee.
