Job Description Position Summary Involved in façade design, building envelope investigations, condition assessments, design of building-envelope repairs and subsequent construction administration, and peer reviews of building envelope designs. Primary Responsibilities • Design assistance to Architects including detailing, specification preparation etc, • Proposal review and value analysis including recommendations for award of Contract., • Value Engineering, • Contractor submittal review for compliance with Contract Documents, • Observation of mock-up construction and testing, • In-plant inspection to assess Quality Controls and manufacturer’s Quality Control Programs. We also monitor quality of production on behalf of our clients, • Special Inspection of façade installation as required by the Building Department/Building Code of the City of New York, • Periodic inspection of facades as required by Building Department/Code Officials to confirm safety of façade conditions, • Due diligence inspections for Developers/Owners considering the purchase of a building., • Forensic investigations of façade failures i.e.:, • Excessive air infiltration, • Water penetration, • Structural deficiency, • Failure to provide anticipated thermal performance and condensation resistance, • Failure of operating windows and doors to function correctly, • Finish failure, • Development of remedial work programs to address façade failures and monitor the implementation of such programs, • Development of programs for façade upgrades including re-cladding; over-cladding window replacement etc. and monitoring implementations of such programs, • Manages project team, • Builds client relationships, • Researches historical background of structure, technical issues, and code issues, • Designs repair details, • Prepares drawings, specifications, and final project deliverables, • Prepares bid documents, addenda, draft investigation reports, and othe work product, • Conducts on-site inspection/investigation including survey and documentation of distress, field testing, sampling, photographing, and sketching, • Conducts on-site observations of work in progress, • Analyzes research and investigation data and develops alternate schemes for solving problems, • Monitors and/or conducts field testing, • Attends field meetings and prepares site observation reportsPerforms tasks to support office function, • Participates in professional organizations, authors papers, attends conferences, and performs work on technical committees, • Supervise work by technicians and draftsmen and others assisting project team, • Able to work on routine projects independently, • Act as project manager for small, straightforward assignments and serve as project engineer to assist project manager in engineering, budgeting, scheduling, and client communication for more complex assignments, • Develop letters, reports, drawings, specifications, and proposals with moderate guidance from supervisor, • Conduct field investigations and on-site construction monitoring, • Skilled at time management, • Ability to present to client groups and professional organizations, • Perform field investigation and water leakage testing of roofing and waterproofing systems, windows, curtain walls, and other building components, • Pursue professional activities to gain professional recognition, • Essential duties include climbing ladders and scaffolds, and the ability to work at great heights, and the ability to travel by car to multiple job sites Position Requirements • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in performing the services offered by the firm, or 5-10 years relevant experience for a Intermediate Consultant role, • PE or RA License is a plus, • Experience in building construction and investigating building problems, which may include difficulties related to concrete, curtain walls, flooring, glazing, masonry, roofing sealants, waterproofing, windows and building science issues, • Experience in field inspection of new construction in progress, • Degreed in a related field with relevant experience and expertise in one ormore of the firm’s primary practices is preferred but not essential, • Strong generalist background, • Experience managing a range of projects from small to large, • Active in professional organizations, • Strong technical, written, and verbal communication skills, • Strong computer skills including CADD and Microsoft Office, • Ability to work in the field, • Ability to travel outside local area, depending on local work load and project location Personal Characteristics • Enthusiasm for their work and no fear of heights, include climbing ladders and scaffolds, • Excellent verbal and writing skills to communicate on the job, and to juries, clients and another professionals, • Excellent organizational skills, • Must be able to work collaboratively with project owners, contractors and field crew members, • Interest in buildings and solving engineering problemsCompany DescriptionOur client is a nationally recognized professional exterior walls consulting firm specializing in the design of building enclosure systems including windows walls, curtain walls, windows, masonry, pre-cast concrete, glass & glazing, panel wall systems, waterproofing, roofing, EIFS, and skylights.
