Job Description OVERVIEW: The Surgical Scheduler is responsible for coordinating the scheduling of procedures according to the Organization’s policies to meet the needs of the patient and physician. The surgical scheduler will also register patients including collecting patient copayments, answer telephone and in-person patient inquiries, and perform all basic administrative office functions. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Supports the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the Organization., • Supports and performs according to approved policies and procedures., • Participate as a team member in support of the total perioperative process., • Considers patient rights in performing duties and establish Facility policies., • Contributes to the progress and development of the approved QAPI Program., • Supports risk management and participates in programs directed to patient and staff safety., • Contributes to the quality management process; identifies role and contributions upon request., • Objectively evaluates suggestions, grievances, and processes to identify opportunities to performance and quality of care., • Communicate effectively with patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers., • Interactions are respectful and courteous., • Communicate effectively and professionally using a translator when necessary., • Documents that information received from the patient are disseminated to the appropriate departments., • Monitors progress of scheduled procedures and location of patients and physicians., • Maintains and promotes professional competence through continuing education and other learning experiences., • Participates in committees, conferences, and quality management activities., • Research and submit pertinent articles for review at staff meetings., • Seek new learning experiences by accepting challenging opportunities and responsibilities., • Objectively evaluates suggestions or criticisms and attempts to improve performance or guidance, as needed., • Attends and actively participates in meetings, committees, in-services, workshops, seminars, and conferences according to job responsibilities and the Organization’s requirements as requested per management approval., • Adheres to safety policies and procedures in performing job duties and responsibilities., • Reports observed or suspected violations, hazards, and noncompliance according to the Organization’s policy., • Observes safety measures in performance of job duties and responsibilities., • Responds to emergency situations with competence and composure., • Interacts appropriately with various age groups., • Accurately interprets age-specific patient responses to questions and instructions., • Considers age-specific patient requirements when responding to emergency situations., • Consider priorities and special needs when scheduling preoperative appointments and surgical procedures., • Schedules appointments and procedures according to the Organization’s policy., • Coordinates surgical preoperative appointments with clinical preoperative activities., • Maintains schedule according to the Organization’s policy, physician’s time, and staffing requirements., • Coordinates schedule assessing time and equipment availability; identifies conflicts and adjusts schedules as needed., • Prepares appointment and surgery schedules for supervisor’s review., • Daily communication to physician scheduler of open block time and availability., • Continuing education to physician schedulers on Amkail Link (online scheduling portal)., • Accurately prepares the schedule for timely distribution., • Facilitates the daily completion of the surgery schedule., • Input patient registration information into computer system., • Notifies Business Office Coordinator of deficits in patient information., • Distributes schedules to appropriate areas so that required staff and supplies are available., • Notifies designated personnel of schedule changes according to the Organization’s policy.
