Who We Are Cristo Rey Orlando High School is located in Orlando, FL, and will be part of the national Cristo Rey Network. The school opened its doors to its inaugural freshmen class in the fall of 2025. Like all Cristo Rey schools, it will be a Catholic, college preparatory high school for students of all faiths from families of limited financial means. The school will be co-educational and will serve students of diverse backgrounds. We will help our students grow intellectually, academically, emotionally, spiritually, socially, and morally. Who You Are You are a dedicated and compassionate School Counselor who plays a vital role in supporting students' academic and mental health growth. You collaborate with Founding Lead School Counselor, students, teachers, and parents to ensure each student is fully supported in their educational journey. With a strong focus on creating and nurturing a college-going culture, you guide students toward understanding the importance of higher education, exposing them to the concept of college early on and helping them see it as a realistic and achievable goal. You are organized and proactive, ensuring students are placed in appropriate schedules and are on track to meet graduation requirements, including necessary coursework and testing. Your commitment is to foster an environment where students not only thrive emotionally and academically but are also empowered to pursue college and future success. This Role Cristo Rey Orlando High School is seeking a dedicated School Counselor to support the schools mission by providing leadership in student mental health, academic guidance, and fostering a college-going culture. In this role, you will ensure students are receiving the emotional, social, and academic support they need to succeed. You will play a key part in helping students navigate challenges, meet graduation requirements, and prepare for higher education. Your ability to manage multiple responsibilities while creating a nurturing and supportive school environment will be essential to the overall growth and success of students, faculty, and staff. Educational Guidance Educate Students, Teachers, and Parents: Collaborate/ Develop and implement programs to educate students, teachers, and parents on mental health awareness, coping strategies, and academic success. Classroom Guidance Lessons: Plan and facilitate classroom guidance lessons on topics related to mental health, academic planning, and personal development. Academic Planning and Support Student Schedule Placement: Ensure students are placed into appropriate school schedules that align with their academic goals and graduation requirements. Monitor Graduation Requirements: Track student progress to ensure they are meeting course and testing requirements for graduation, including transcript audits and state assessments. Support Academic Success: Conduct at-risk meetings with students and collaborate with the Dean of Culture to provide targeted support for students facing academic challenges. Parent and Teacher Collaboration Parent Communication: Regularly communicate with parents regarding their child's academic progress, mental health, and any intervention or support plans. Collaborate with Teachers and Staff: Work closely with teachers and school staff to identify students who need additional support and develop individualized plans to address their needs. Compliance and Documentation Maintain Student Records: Ensure the accuracy and confidentiality of student records, including mental health documentation and academic progress. Policy Adherence: Ensure compliance with school policies, state regulations, and reporting requirements related to student mental health and academic success. College Exposure Provide students, families, and teachers with resources and opportunities to explore college pathways, including information on the college application process, financial aid, and preparation strategies to support students' long-term educational goals. Serve as the coordinator of college visits and events, organizing campus tours and informational sessions to help students gain firsthand insight into college life and options. Mental Health Support Provide Brief Counseling: Address emotional, social, and behavioral concerns. Professional Development Continuous Learning: Participate in ongoing professional development aligned with Cristo Rey Network goals, including training on mental health, academic intervention, and counseling best practices. Staff Training: Provide training opportunities for teachers and staff on mental health awareness and strategies for supporting student well-being. Other Responsibilities: Performs other duties and special assignments as assigned by the Lead School Counselor, Principal and Assistant Principal. The School Counselor reports to and will work directly with the Lead School Counselor, Founding Principal and Founding Assistant Principal. They will have an immediate impact and will manage new projects and initiatives, as well as maintain existing ones. This summary does not describe all job duties. Required Qualifications • Master Degree in Social Work or School Counseling, Bachelor Degree in related field., • Certification in School Social Work and/or School Counseling and Social Work License, • At least 3-5 years of experience in school social work or school counselor, • Physical demands include being required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, and climb stairs., • Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment., • Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Preferred Qualifications • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills, with a commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive school environment that supports students' mental health, academic success, and social-emotional development., • Expertise in counseling and social work, with the ability to provide guidance and support to students from diverse backgrounds, particularly in managing emotional and behavioral challenges., • Proficient in utilizing educational technology, data analysis tools, and counseling software to track student progress, analyze data, and support both academic achievement and college readiness., • Experience in college counseling, including guiding students through the college application process, financial aid, and career pathways, while promoting a college-going culture., • Commitment to consistent, on-time attendance for all responsibilities, including events, meetings, and supervision duties., • Dedication to supporting the schools mission and values, especially within a faith-based educational setting., • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and other technology platforms relevant to school counseling.
