Job Description Job Title: Foreman – Quality control Job Description This role leads and performs high-quality TIG welding on stainless steel process piping and related fabrications in a clean, modern shop and field environment. The position requires expert proficiency in TIG welding stainless steel pipe in 6G positions, strong blueprint reading skills, and a deep understanding of metallurgical properties, welding procedures, and safety protocols. You will work on a variety of projects, including pipe welding, stairs, and ladders, while ensuring precise, full-penetration welds that meet demanding industrial standards. Responsibilities • Perform advanced TIG (GTAW) welding on stainless steel pipe in 6G positions, ensuring high-quality, full-penetration welds for critical and high-pressure applications., • Execute open root butt welding on stainless steel pipe, including Schedule 10–160 and Schedule 80, using proper beveling, fit-up, and welding techniques to achieve strong, defect-free joints., • Prepare pipe for welding by beveling ends, cleaning surfaces, aligning joints, and setting appropriate root gaps for full penetration without backing rings., • Carry out back purging (purging/backing) on stainless steel welds using inert gas to protect the root side of the weld from oxidation, contamination, and sugaring., • Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, welding symbols, and specifications to plan and execute welding tasks accurately., • Apply knowledge of metallurgical properties of stainless steel and related alloys to select appropriate welding parameters, filler materials, and techniques., • Use TIG torches (200 AMP or more) and other welding equipment such as flux core and MIG machines when required by the project., • Inspect welds visually and with measuring tools to verify dimensions, alignment, and weld quality against project requirements and industry standards., • Work on a variety of fabrication projects including pipe systems, stairs, ladders, and other structural or process components., • Follow and enforce welding safety protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times., • Collaborate with shop and field teams to coordinate work, solve technical issues, and meet production and quality targets., • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper handling, storage, and maintenance of tools, equipment, and materials., • Work independently with minimal supervision while also contributing effectively as part of a team to complete projects on time., • Proficiency in TIG (GTAW) welding techniques for stainless steel, including thin and thick wall pipe., • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience as a TIG welder performing process piping and stainless steel 6G pipe welding., • Demonstrated experience with open root butt welding stainless steel pipe, including Schedule 10–160 and Schedule 80 pipe., • Hands-on experience with 2-inch Schedule 80 stainless steel pipe welding in critical or high-pressure applications., • Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols., • Knowledge of metallurgical properties of stainless steel and related alloys and how they affect welding procedures., • Proficiency with back purging (purging/backing) techniques using inert gas to protect the root side of welds., • Experience using TIG torches rated at 200 AMP or more for stainless steel pipe welding., • Familiarity with flux core and MIG welding processes for supplemental fabrication work., • Excellent hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, and fine motor control required for precise TIG welding., • High attention to detail and commitment to producing clean, high-quality welds., • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in both shop and field environments., • Demonstrated capability in 6G welding, working with pipes fixed at a 45-degree angle and mastering flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions in a single joint., • Experience with welding for critical, high-pressure, and industrial applications such as oil, gas, or similar pipeline and process environments., • Familiarity with open root butt welding techniques, including managing root gaps, beveling for wall thickness greater than 3 mm, and achieving full penetration without backing rings., • Ability to use common fabrication tools such as squares, two-hole pins, levels, and tape measures to ensure accurate layout and fit-up., • Strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot weld defects, alignment issues, and fit-up challenges. Work Environment Work takes place in a clean, new shop environment located in Phoenix, AZ, with additional assignments in the field as needed. The standard schedule is first shift, typically 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., working five 10-hour days (5x10s), with a minimum expectation of approximately 50 hours per week and rare weekend work. This structure provides regular opportunities for 10–20 hours of overtime each week. You will use professional-grade equipment including TIG torches (200 AMP or more), flux core and MIG machines, along with layout tools such as squares, two-hole pins, levels, and tape measures. Personal protective equipment includes steel-toed boots and a welding hood, and you work in an environment that emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and proper PPE usage at all times. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Phoenix, AZ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $40.00/hr.
