Risk and Safety Manager The Risk and Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing day-to-day safety, compliance, and risk management activities for Forrest’s asset-based trucking operations. This role is highly operational and hands-on, with a primary focus on driver safety performance, hours-of-service compliance, fuel policy enforcement, and proactive risk mitigation. In addition to asset-based responsibilities, this position provides cross-functional support to the Company’s brokerage operations when needed, helping ensure continuity of service, compliance alignment, and risk mitigation across both operating models. The Risk and Safety Manager partners closely with company drivers, operations, maintenance, and equipment teams, as well as external partners including insurance agents, fuel vendors, fuel card providers, truck yards, and transportation legal counsel. This position plays a critical role in protecting the Company’s drivers, equipment, customers, and reputation while supporting efficient and compliant operations. Critical Job Functions • Monitor, review, and coach company drivers on safety-related performance, including video-based safety alerts, telematics data, and incident trends, • Proactively address unsafe driving behaviors through coaching, corrective action plans, and ongoing driver engagement, • Vet potential driver applicants against Forrest Logistics’ internal qualifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements prior to hire, • Ensure ongoing fleet and driver compliance with DOT and FMCSA regulations, with a primary focus on hours-of-service (HOS), driver qualification, and daily operational compliance, • Serve as the primary point of contact for all compliance and safety-related questions specific to the asset-based fleet, • Provide support to the Company’s brokerage operations as needed, including stepping in to assist with carrier compliance, risk review, or shipment coverage during periods of increased volume, disruptions, or resource constraints, • Review fuel card transactions to ensure adherence to company fuel policies, identifying misuse, inefficiencies, or potential fraud, • Partner with fuel vendors and fuel card banks to resolve discrepancies, manage controls, and strengthen fraud prevention measures, • Vet, onboard, and maintain relationships with truck yards, ensuring compliance with company standards, safety expectations, and operational needs, • Process and manage permits as required based on routing, cargo type, or jurisdictional requirements, • Support accident, incident, and near-miss investigations, including documentation, root cause analysis, and corrective actions, • Maintain accurate and up-to-date driver files, fleet records, safety documentation, and compliance data in accordance with DOT and company standards, • Collaborate closely with operations, maintenance, and equipment teams to address safety concerns, equipment-related risks, and regulatory findings, • Maintain strong working relationships with the Company’s insurance agent, supporting claims reporting, documentation, and loss trend analysis, • Coordinate with transportation legal counsel on regulatory questions, violations, audits, and risk-related matters as needed, • Support internal audits, DOT audits, and regulatory inquiries related to asset-based operations, • Stay current on industry trends, regulatory changes, and enforcement updates, proactively recommending policy, training, or process improvements, • Strong sense of personal accountability and ownership, with a proactive and solutions-oriented approach to safety and compliance, • Demonstrated experience working directly with commercial drivers in a safety, compliance, or operations role, • Working knowledge of DOT and FMCSA regulations, including hours-of-service and driver qualification requirements, • Ability to analyze safety data, telematics, video alerts, and fuel transaction reports to identify risk and improvement opportunities, • Strong coaching, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence behavior and build trust with drivers, • High attention to detail with strong documentation and audit discipline, • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced operational environment, • Experience working with fuel card programs, fuel vendors, or fraud monitoring preferred, • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across operations, maintenance, equipment, and leadership teams, • Competitive compensation and benefits, • Opportunity to make a direct impact on driver safety and operational risk reduction, • High-visibility role supporting asset-based fleet operations, • Internal advancement opportunities for strong performers, • Modern office environment and amenities at The Casa (gym, yoga, juice bar, food trucks, and more)
