Job DescriptionJob Title: TIG Welder Job Description Join a growing welding team that manufactures high-quality automotive components, including mufflers, silencers, exhaust tubing, thermal management tubing, and hydraulic and lubrication assemblies. In this role, you use your TIG and MIG welding skills on stainless and mild steel to produce precise, durable parts in a clean, safety-focused production environment. You work in an individual welding booth with strong ventilation and support from an experienced team, with opportunities for training, certification, and long-term advancement. Responsibilities • Perform TIG and MIG welding on stainless steel and mild steel components according to production specifications and quality standards., • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and welding symbols to determine layout, weld types, and sequence of operations., • Prepare materials for welding by cleaning, fitting, aligning, and securing parts using appropriate tools and techniques., • Set up, operate, and adjust welding machines and related tools to achieve proper weld penetration, bead appearance, and structural integrity., • Work confidently in multiple welding positions, such as flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead, as required by the job., • Inspect welds visually and with measuring tools to ensure quality, strength, and adherence to specifications, making corrections as needed., • Minimize distortion and warping through proper welding techniques, heat control, and sequencing., • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet daily production goals while maintaining high quality standards., • Follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment during welding, grinding, and material handling., • Maintain a clean, organized welding booth and work area, including proper use of the snorkel system to remove welding debris and fumes., • Complete required weld tests and quality checks, and respond constructively to inspection feedback., • Work up to 50 hours per week, including overtime as needed, to support production demands across sheet metal, tubular, and fabrication areas.Essential Skills, • Proficient MIG welding on stainless steel and mild steel., • Proficient TIG welding on stainless steel and mild steel., • Ability to pass a MIG and TIG weld test demonstrating sound weld quality and technique., • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and welding symbols accurately., • Ability to pass a basic math test, including adding and subtracting decimals and reading inch measurements on a ruler., • Capability to work 50 hours per week, including overtime as needed., • Ownership of a welding helmet and welding gloves., • Experience using common welding tools and equipment, including welding machines and grinders., • Strong focus on safety practices in accordance with industry and regulatory standards., • Ability to work independently in an assigned welding booth while contributing to team production goals.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience with both MIG and TIG welding in a production or fabrication environment., • Background in welding stainless steel, including finishing and grinding as needed., • Experience in fabrication work, including fitting and assembling components prior to welding., • Comfort working in various welding positions such as flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead., • Familiarity with OSHA or similar safety standards related to welding operations., • Ability to use grinding tools to clean and finish welds., • Experience working in sheet metal, tubular, or prototype/fabrication welding departments is a plus., • Strong attention to detail, quality, and consistency in weld appearance and strength., • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to learn new processes and techniques through onsite training and certifications.Why Work Here? Work Environment Work takes place in a large, 256,000-square-foot warehouse that is very clean, organized, and not excessively loud. Safety is the top priority, with well-defined procedures and a strong emphasis on maintaining a safe workplace. Welders are assigned individual welding booths equipped with snorkel systems that actively vacuum welding debris and fumes, supporting air quality and comfort. All required personal protective equipment is provided, except for welding helmets and gloves, which you supply. The facility includes multiple welding departments, including Sheet Metal, Tubular, and Prove Design (Fabrication and MIG/TIG), offering exposure to a variety of parts and processes. Available shifts include 1st shift (5:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.) and 2nd shift (3:30 p.m. – 2:00 a.m.), with a shift differential for 2nd shift. The environment is structured, production-focused, and designed to support efficiency, quality, and continuous improvement in welding operations. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $26.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
