Job Description Position Summary The Senior Manager of People Operations plays a critical role in ensuring the effectiveness, accuracy, and integrity of United Way of Central Indiana’s people systems and processes. This role oversees core people operations including payroll, benefits, HRIS administration, hiring and onboarding processes, and compliance-related activities. The Senior Manager serves as the organization’s primary subject matter expert for the HRIS system (Paycom) and related people systems and ensures smooth execution of team member lifecycle processes from hire to exit. Position Duties & Responsibilities The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. People Operations & HRIS Administration • Serve as the primary operational administrator and internal expert for United Way’s people system (Paycom), including payroll & benefits, PTO, and team member data integrity., • Partner closely with Finance to prepare, audit, and submit bi-weekly payroll; ensure timely, accurate processing and resolve payroll discrepancies., • Administer PTO usage, accruals, rollovers, corrections, and related system configurations., • Ensure all new hires, job changes, and exits are accurately reflected in Paycom, including titles, reporting relationships, compensation, benefits, and employment status., • Serve as the primary liaison with Paycom and other third-party vendors; troubleshoot issues, coordinate enhancements, and ensure systems are functioning as intended., • Monitor and coordinate payroll and benefits compliance in partnership with external advisors (e.g., benefits brokers, retirement plan administrators)., • Administer all team member benefits, including enrollments, changes, open enrollment, renewals, and COBRA administration., • Ensure new hires’ benefits are properly established in Paycom and applicable third-party provider systems., • Coordinate with external vendors to ensure accurate benefits administration and ongoing compliance with federal, state, and local regulations., • Support annual audits, tax filings, and required reporting related to payroll, benefits, and retirement plans., • Ensure the Team Playbook and all benefits-related communications remain current, accurate, and aligned with actual offerings., • Develop, facilitate, and implement all phases of the recruitment process, from requisition through hire, ensuring alignment with organizational needs and compliance requirements., • Administer the Applicant Tracking System (ATS) and support full-cycle hiring across the organization, including grant-funded teams., • Collaborate with hiring managers to develop accurate job descriptions, hiring criteria, and recruiting approaches aligned with role requirements and organizational priorities., • Identify and implement effective recruiting methods and sourcing strategies based on role needs, industry standards, and available talent pools., • Manage job postings ensuring timely posting and consistent candidate communications, including dispositioning., • Screen applications and support interview processes, including coordination, participation, and guidance for hiring managers and stakeholders as needed., • Launch and manage background checks and reference checks., • Partner with People & Culture leadership during the offer process, including preparing, negotiating, and disseminating offer letters; coordinating compensation details, start dates, and onboarding readiness., • Coordinate onboarding activities, including new hire orientation logistics, onboarding system setup, and communication with internal partners (IT, Finance, Internal Communications)., • Maintain accurate and up-to-date hiring policies, procedures, and guidance for hiring managers; support training and onboarding of ATS users as needed., • Execute team member exit processes, including coordination with IT and Finance, system access removal, exit surveys, and required documentation., • Create, maintain, and audit soft and hard team member files and required documentation., • Ensure annual completion of conflict-of-interest reporting and other required people-related disclosures and statements., • Handle team member-related inquiries from team members and managers, referring sensitive or complex matters to appropriate leadership. *Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal education where appropriate. • Bachelor’s degree required; human resource management, organizational leadership, business administration, etc., • 4-6+ years of progressively responsible experience in people operations, payroll, and benefits administration, • Demonstrated experience administering and optimizing HRIS systems (Paycom strongly preferred), • Advanced knowledge of payroll administration, benefits management, and employment law compliance, • Exceptional attention to detail with a demonstrated ability to ensure accuracy in payroll processing, benefits administration, and data integrity, • Strong operational judgment and ability to manage complex, multi-step workflows with precision and consistency, • Experience leveraging HR technology, automation, and system functionality to improve efficiency and reduce operational risk, • Ability to integrate and optimize people systems to enhance the team member experience, • Strong analytical skills with the ability to audit, reconcile, and resolve discrepancies, • Ability to work independently while collaborating cross-functionally with Finance and external technology partners, • High degree of confidentiality, integrity, and professionalism Position Leader: Vice President of People & Culture Position Leads: N/A FLSA Status: Exempt, Full-Time Salary Range: Upper 60’s to Mid 70’s Benefits: Complete Benefits Package Available Reviewed: March 2026 Equal Opportunity Employer United Way of Central Indiana (UWCI) is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
