Job Description Job Summary: The Lead Teacher will be responsible for designing and implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum that fosters social emotional, cognitive, and physical growth for children of all abilities. Key Responsibilities: Curriculum & Instruction • Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with age-appropriate practices and individual learning styles. Implement inclusive and individual practices that support children of all abilities and learning needs. • Promote language, literacy, numeracy, creativity, and social-emotional development through daily play-based learning., • Incorporate intergenerational learning opportunities where applicable., • Attend team meetings, training, and CEC's events as required. Classroom Management & Environment • Foster a safe, nurturing, and stimulating classroom environment., • Ensure that the classroom(s) is/are organized and clean., • Use positive guidance and conflict-resolution that support emotional development and resilience. Supervision & Collaboration • Always maintain active supervision of children, indoors and outdoors., • Supervise and mentor assistant teachers, volunteers, and interns., • Collaborate with other Lead Teachers and the Director to align on goals, policies, and continuous improvement., • Partner with the Director, Assistant Director, all other Lead Teachers, Assistant Teachers, Classroom Support members and Disabilities Specialist to ensure consistent routines and learning experiences. Family Engagement & Communication • Build trusting relationships with families through regular communication and involvement., • Maintain open and professional communication with staff and families., • Conduct family conferences and share developmental updates using clear and compassionate language., • Celebrating each child's uniqueness while partnering with caregivers to support growth both at school and at home Compliance & Safety • Follow all health, safety and emergency protocols., • Ensure compliance with all state licensing regulations and internal policies., • Maintain accurate attendance, incident reports, and developmental assessments., • Participating in ongoing training, professional development, and CPR/First Aid certifications needed. Inclusive Practice • Maintain a welcoming, equitable, learning environment for children of all abilities., • Model patience, empathy, and positive behavioral support strategies., • Celebrate diversity and promote inclusive learning and play., • Encourage collaboration and positive workplace culture among team members. Qualifications • Associate's degree preferred in childcare or in related field. Minimum of two years of experience working in a childcare setting with the following credentialing and certifications preferred(???) and/or willing to obtain: CDA (Child Development Specialist) DC (Director's Credential) CCCC (Commonwealth Child Care Credential) • Understanding of inclusive practices and experience working with children of varying developmental abilities., • Ability to be team-oriented., • Commitment to and promotion of equity and inclusion practices. Physical Requirements • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching. Now Harbor House is expanding to bring these same outstanding day services to children and seniors of all abilities—meaning with and without disabilities—on an intergenerational model where all three groups will engage daily in meaningful opportunities aimed at improving their lives. What does that mean? It means that children, adults, and seniors of all abilities will read, sing, dance, paint, draw, and even exercise together. We moved into our new 36,000-square-foot Intergenerational Life Center in October 2023, and are now weaving children and seniors into our family, beginning with before- and after-school programs and seniors in 2024, and 105 children of all abilities, ages 6 weeks to 5 years, when our previous 8,000-square-foot building is renovated into a Child Enrichment Center by spring 2025.
